Realistic target for next 5 games 11:40 - Mar 8 with 4452 viewsquirkie

Entering the business end of things now, and the next 5 games on paper look tough.

Bolton A - Draw 1-1
Shrewsbury H- Win 2-0
Barnsley A - Draw 2-2
Derby A - Win 1-0
Wycombe H - Win 2-1

11 pts from 15 and I think even though we have hit some sort of form that may be a tad optimistic.

3 wins and a draw keeps us at 2pts per game and heading for 92pts. Unfortunately I think we'll need to better that total for 2nd place.

If Plymouth win Saturday, for me, top 2 is completely over (I’m 99% sure it is anyway)

Rather boringly we'll probably do OK out of that lot but not by enough to make top 2 any likelier. In reality the games will be about whether we do enough to stop people crying about how awful we are and how we're going to crash out the playoffs when we get there.

As a prediction possibly one each of W D L in the aways (couldn't say in which order) and win both homes which is 10 points so 2 ppg which is pretty good but as above unlikely to change the overall picture too much.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Well I think the target should be to win every match.

However, I would right now settle for 11 points from those 5 games, in the combination you suggest. That would be more than 2 points per game in a very difficult run of games. Not too shabby given that these 5 games are against 5 of the 6 teams immediately below us, and the three highest ranked teams are all away. 11 points would be a really good return. 12 points even better - I'd suffer a loss against even the team in 4th, if it meant beating the other two playoff sides.

We need to learn to win when the opposition scores a goal. Plymouth do it a lot. We haven't done it in the league since mid December. We'll surely concede in the next few games.

If Plymouth get a result at Barnsley, I think we're gonna find it tough to overhaul them. I really do think that this weekend is absolutely crucial. I'm not even thinking about the other playoff teams overtaking us. If that happens, our top 2 ambitions are toast anyway. I'm just thinking that Plymouth and us both have really tough away games this weekend, and Plymouth's home form is so rock solid, and their run-in comparatively soft on paper, that we really really need them to slip up in their next game. If they win and we lose, I think that's curtains for the top two, as it would mean an 8 point difference with ten to play. More likely, we'll both draw, and the agony continues!

If we've gained on Plymouth by the end of those 5 games we'll have done very well, even if it's a point or 2. I'll go for:

Bolton A - Win 0-1
Shrewsbury H - Win 2-0
Barnsley A - Lose 2-1
Derby A - Draw 1-1
Wycombe H - Win 2-0

I think thats right as after that their home record should see them through whatever. I'd take 10 points for us over the next 5 games, but then only 6 left of course.

Bolton is the easiest of the 3 away games,if we win that and Plymouth drop some points on Sat(hopefully 3) then i can see us win all 5 with the added confidence of closing the gap,
I think we'll at least draw at Derby and Barnsley and remain unbeaten through the 5 games

None of those sides can afford to park the bus, so hopefully that 'll open it up for us.

Bolton A 1-1 draw
Shrewsbury H 2-2 draw
Barnsley A 2-0 loss
Derby A 1-2 Win
Wycombe H 2-1 Win

Must admit I expected Plymouth to drop points last night, we now have some really tough games and the Shrewsbury game worries me. It’s the standout game where we’d be expected to take the 3 points but they’re a decent side and pressure will be on.
Barnsley are absolutely flying.
We’ll pull a result out because it’s last chance saloon at Derby and Wycombe are adapting under their new manager.
8 points.
Fear not though, my predictions of late have been way off😃😃

We'll be doing well to get 8 or 9 points. We need 12+ really, and for Argyle to drop points. Their last three games are easy on paper but as Guthers showed elsewhere they have not been as good as us and Owls against the bottom teams. However their home form is brutal and common sense says we're unlikely to catch them now.

You know what? I’ve given up trying to predict. I know it can be fun, but at this point in the season noth8ng less than wins will do, and it’s massively unlikely we’ll win them all. I’m firmly in the ‘take each game as it comes’ camp at the mo. I just hope Plym start to slip up - but we’ve been hoping that all season havnt we!

Easy. Five games, five wins, 15 points. 11 goals for, zero against. Sorted!

5 games against good top half sides. Win at home and draw away would be a decent outcome. That is 9 points from 5 games. That isn't likely to be enough. We really need to get a minimum of 10. Winning at Bolton on Saturday would lay down a marker that we mean business. Winning at either Barnsley or Derby won't be easy but we really could do with getting a minimum of 3 wins out of those fixtures and a maximum of 1 defeat.

I think we have to better Plymouth result on Saturday.. we can’t drop any further behind or not make up anymore ground on them.. Surely there has to be a year when a bit of fortune goes our way…

I’m not sure it is, it would only take a minor wobble for Plymouth to be getting very nervous, we just need to keep winning to keep the pressure up.

The away games will be tight, all three results possible and decided by fine margins, the home games you'd expect us to win.

We need 10 points to keep pace. We need 12+ points to close the gap.
The next 5 games are harder than our previous 5.

Im going 11 points and we close the gap to 2 points.
