Had wondered if he might be one we say 'thanks for all you've done but it's time to go' to but clearly McKenna/the club putting a lot of stock in having popular, experienced characters around the place even if game time for someone like JD will be limited if we go up.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Not so sure – and JD has form for moving from the fringe to being one of the first on the team sheet.

I like Clarke and he’s great when we’re pressing home our attacking advantage. But if and when we’re promoted we’re going to come up against better players and teams and the defensive side will become more important than currently. So I think Donacien could be a better choice at times as he seems more solid defensively.

But as a very consistent starter and back-up across multiple positions and an all-round great squad member, an extra year is a bit of a no-brainer.

Did we not trigger Simpson's option last summer with the intention to sell him? It may be that MA is simply ensuring we get a fee if JD moves on in the summer.

That said, his versatility is a real asset so could give us options from the bench.

Consummate professional, well liked, versatile, good solid defender, no brainer for me.

Don't get me wrong I think he's great but if we want to bring a few in in the summer we're going to have to shift a lot out and thought he could be one that could make way as he'd just be released at the end of his contract which is obviously an easier way to get rid of someone than find a buyer.

Can also step in as a centre back.

Brilliant!

Thoroughly deserved - has been immense during KMc tenure. Really good footballer and important part of the group.

Him and Clarke are very good options for that versatile RB/RCB hybrid role - and they both do it well.

Has there been a more popular banter era player? Everyone loves Janoi.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I'd love that too. Given the fact that Clarke already has as many shots for Ipswich as JD has in total for the club I think there's more chance of me winning the Euromillions on Friday (I'm still buying a ticket though).

But of course he wouldn't have to move on if he didn't want to. I doubt he's worth much more than KVY, being a fair bit older, and I doubt KVY will be given an extension.

Perfectly good back up to Clarke. Not sure we'd look to upgrade on Clarke. Offer something different to Clarke too. Stabilize and see out games, particularly if games are coming thick and fast and we want to rest Clarke after 60-70 mins

The perfect cover
Still good enough to play if you wanted him from the start.. but also very handy to bring on if you want to concentrate defensively for final 10 minutes.

a niche perspective
