Anyone have a small amount of sympathy for Sheff Wed 07:57 - Apr 30 with 7269 viewsDamster

Just cannot imagine how they are feeling and such an Ipswich of the past mess up from them.
To make matters worse their points total would win them the league in most seasons. To get caught by Ipswich who have been on a run of 14 wins including 4 incredibly hard away games is just ridiculous. This end of the season is simply unique and not one we will probably see for a long time. Still can’t believe it is our Ipswich who was been on this mental run of form at the right time.
Nearly as hard to believe as being 4-0 up in a tense must win game after 20 minutes yesterday. Football. 😂

No.

The thing that had struck me about both Weds and Plymouth is how arrogant some of their fan base is. Giving it large on our forums, social media etc. Based on what, I ask?

Yes. If they win next week and end on 96 points, jeez. The play offs are here for a reason and it isn't to make sure the best three teams get promoted.

Imagine getting 96 points and not being promoted it must be devastating hahaha

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Absolutely none. They cost us the title with their cheating, have been graceless, turned on Moore and basically decided to be arrogant and obnoxious as an approach and paid for it.

It's my favourite away day, they've got some great history and fans but if they fail to go up it's on them.

A boring league 1 side with an ancient squad who thought shthousing 1-0s every game would win them the league. I remember listening to Stockdale on the Under the Cosh podcast celebrating how he gets away with his time wasting every match. Their local journalists were celebrating them winning the league in Feb. DM said there was no way he’d take second place in an interview a few months ago.

I like DM as a human being, but no sympathy for their club and I hope they bottle the play offs

Over on owlstalk, some of the fans are very gracious - there’s a “well done itfc/Plymouth “ thread

I do feel very sorry for them , to achieve 90+ points and not get promoted, gut wrenching. Even more so when you consider the position they were in in March

But then I remember the 23 years of pain we’ve suffered and somehow I feel better and forget all about them and this god forsaken league

Sympathy for players and coaching staff. Sympathy for sections of the fanbase whom I haven't personally met but know exist. No criticism for the confidence they felt going into the final run!

However, missile throwing was poor and not limited to a few. Widespread belief in the unmatched grandeur of their squad, long before their unbeaten run, showed plenty of ignorance - by no means a sin but I remember in October remarking how odd it was. A lot of them would need to live in a carefully crafted footballing world of their own making to have truly believed it, but I suppose this is what it takes to cling onto one's perceived place in the pyramid. Treatment of Moore unpalatable. Majority opinion regarding Burns and the elbow embarrassing.

I believe we were the better team by some margin over our two matches - they dominated us for two 20 mins spells and otherwise it was one-way traffic. I saw many of them point to the missed opportunity to make it 3-0 at PR as an unfortunate turning point, with nobody pointing to our missed penalty at 0-0 and the matter of keeping 11 men on the field.

I do have sympathy for them and not all Owls fans are obnoxious- m most are decent fans. True, some still think that they are that massive team from the early 90s but some of our fans still go on about the early 80s.

They might well get to 96 points and still not go up - quite bizarre.

As for cheating - some Barnsley fans feel that we cheated them. Over an entire season you are where you deserve. All teams can point to individual incidents that has cost them points.

Barnsley fans forget the robbery of our disallowed 3rd at PR, which remains my biggest town injustice of the season.

Not even given it a thought, we have had to put up with so much dross in the last 20 years. People enjoy the moment you never know if you will get this feeling again, enjoy it to the fullest. This from a fan that witnessed the best of all Sir Bobby's years, this is just as good. So glad that all the younger fans have something to celebrate.

I'm hoping they get 96pts and lose in the play offs to be frank. In fact, I hope they lose to the 6th placed team that finishes 20 odd points behind them.
Their toxic fan base numbers, far outweighs the decent folk amongst them, of which, I'm sure there are many.
I've got no affiliation to SW, so feel no empathy or sympathy. I just sit here thinking about, what would be the most entertaining thing for me to witness, during what's left of the season... Town winning the league, Town gaining 100pts and 100 goals, and SW getting done in the play offs, are on my wish list, just for the drama and LOLs
Although you'd still have to say, that if SW go up, they deserve it, especially if they land on 96pts.. But you don't always get what you deserve. In this crazy season, I could see Posh sneaking 6th and winning POs...I wouldn't bet on it, but it wouldn't shock me either...Im all out of shock trauma.Having seen FGR turn over SW..

When I read the long (over 30 pages) match-thread yesterday, I was quite taken aback with how many of them expressed exactly the same points & feelings as hundreds of us have both this season & in previous ones - eg. "we don't kill teams off when we're a goal up", and "same old same old following this club - years of misery & bad luck, we always seem to find a way of ****ing it up" etc.

The first of those quotes highlights the gulf in ability between KM and DM imho - KM was able to learn from the situation, & change it in quite remarkable and dramatic fashion - DM clearly wasn't able to do that unless you count their win yesterday against opposition that commentators said was much weakened.

No, not really.

Don’t think they deserved it over the whole season like Muff did. Would rather Barnsley went up tbh as they play much more attractive football and their fans don’t have that air of self-entitlement that many Wendies fans do.

Isn’t it just great to be able to sit back and impartially watch the playoff lottery unfold. My bet is on Bolton to win it.

Haha - I know what you mean but we've had nearly a decade of being able to sit back impartially and watch the playoffs unfold.

At least this time we have something positive to distract ourselves with!

Yes I do. Genuinely. They must be so angry with their owners for not gambling in the January window.

I'd be interested to see a list of Town and Wednesday injuries this season. We've had some massive injuries, some to players I've not seen properly since we purchased them. The difference is that we bought big in January and it's that that's got us over the line.

I agree with this. I'm not saying I'm a particular fan of them or their fans but I'd have sympathy with almost any club in that situation (minus obvious exceptions).

They seem to be having similar thoughts to us when we didn't gamble in 2015 - but in their defence they still accumulated a points tally that would be enough 99% of the time.

I like Wednesday. A proper football club.

But I feel no sympathy for them whatsoever. You do your best, you finish where you deserve. While I don’t agree with the concept of the playoffs (third should mean promotion), they work. They generate excitement and keep seasons alive for a lot more clubs. If you win the play off final it’s an amazing experience, as we know. Everyone knows the rules at the start of the season.

Good luck to them and the other playoff sides.

I have sympathy for their manager. Having to deal with negative fans when they are one win away from 96 points. A figure that was the record for a second place figure, prior to (currently) us this season.

Yes, obviously. Darren Moore is one of football's good guys and their points total would normally see them home and dry.

Could be worse: Notts County got 107 points, scored 117 goals and have a GD of +75, yet could end up losing in the play-offs to someone who finished 36 points below them.

I doubt Wendesday fans want sympathy right now, but yes. It feels like an Ipswich thing to do - have an outstanding season and somehow still manage to lose out on automatic promotion. Similar to Barnsley.

Sorry, I just don't buy this idea that you can label a fanbase with one word or phrase. I'm sure there's Ipswich, Plymouth and Wednesday fans I'd love to have a pint with and talk over this season. Equally, all three clubs have fans I'd cross the street to avoid. There's plenty of times I've read Ipswich fans are arrogant and entitled?!?! After two decades of dross, underachievement and no success!
