McKenna coaching them?

Texty has made a comment in a thread about Kenlock about how being coached by McKenna would have improved him.

Of the younger players who leave us in recent years who do you think would have benefitted most from the "McKenna Effect"

With a caveat that this assumes they be fit and stay fit.

are you writing him off?

Le Pen? As somebody who saw every minute of his 12 minute career with Ipswich Town it’s fair to say yep, I’m writing him off.

The laugh was that when he came on, my dad growled to me ‘he won’t last five minutes’. He got that wrong - by seven whole English minutes, as I was quick to point out at the time.

Actually, two others even more obvious that no one has mentioned.

Rhodes and Wickham.

Danny Haynes another one where he dribbled it out of play on the right much of the time. Would love to have seen Haynes given a proper run up front.

I still maintain that Haynes was a terrific instinctive finisher. Give him a chance he had to think about, mind....

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

I was at Wark’s debut. He played at the back alongside Allan Hunter against dirty Leeds at Filbert Street. We didn’t comment on him, not least because we won. I know Allan Clarke made his life a misery until Hunter threatened to break his leg!

Did comment on Muhren though. I saw his early games and my conclusion was too lightweight, couldn’t head, tackle, run or shoot. Drifted around. A total waste of time and money. Wouldn’t last five minutes. Why bother with lightweight foreigners like that? Never going to work. Get a grip Robson!

Doh! This opinion or judgement didn’t age well!

The condemning of Le Pen did age well. Mind you, I see he played many more games back in France.

I think that quite a few players mentioned would not have got McK's silent seal of approval on account of them not moving themselves or the ball quick enough. And as some have said, he probably wouldn't make silk purses out of sow's ears. Some of the names put forward for approval just serve to remind me of a decade of dross.

For my money past players whom he might have improved are such as those who were combative and forward-looking who didn't always get the rub of the green or get used in the best way. In that category I would offer David Norris, Jonas, Gavin Williams, Paul Mason and even Pablo.

Strange player. Could do something brilliant one moment but then run straight out of touch, whilst with the ball, despite having no one around him.

Lee Martin. Had the potential to be better than Burns, but so often flattered to deceive.

Going back a bit further, but I'd like to have seen what he could get out of Liam Trotter, looked like he could have been much more than he ended up being.

Think he was most recently at Chelmsford?

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.
