Sad that one didn't work out, he looked good in his first game

Hope his career goes well but honestly, he always looked pretty naff for us. A fairly poor signing as things go.

Anyone ripping up any division is extremely rare in general.

But has it EVER happened when someone has dropped down to a lower division and been tipped to 'rip up' that division...?

It was always likely to happen after the way things have gone over the last year, but it is a pity. He was the one I was most excited by of the summer 2021 incomings, but it just hasn't worked out. I wish him the best of luck for the future and I hope he fulfills some the potential he seems to have.

I remember all those posting on here telling us how much better he was going to be than Dozzell.....

Think Harper suffered more than most from the general incoherence under Cook but, he really has got stuck and needs to get the next move right.

Summer 2021 was an utter mess really, just signing players without much of a plan. Don't hear Ashton talk much about that these days do we?

I really liked Harper on first look and thought he has so much potential. Imagine if he was under a proper manager like McKenna (as with so many others). But I think calling himself a beast and people wanting a bit of fight and grit, didn't help him either.

I guess there is an element that by the time Ashton walked into the door the Demolition Man had already set us down a path that couldn't be receovered from unless we sacked Cook that summer

It wasn't a bad window by any means. Looking through this list the only ones that didn't work out were Fraser who we promptly got most of the fee back for, Pigott who has flopped and Harper. Plus some likely cheap punts in Penney / Carroll etc.

Makes me wonder where Louie Barry is now. It will never happen, at least not in the near future, but it would be great to hear Paul Cook’s version of events.

He did next to nothing at us, Crewe and Exeter in his time in L1 so not sure he'll be a great pick up for anyone.

Very much last chance saloon for his career now - I wouldn't be surprised to see him drop into L2 or even the National League

He's had a difficult time in the last 2 years, there is no doubt about it - but would be daft to say the young lad hasn't got ability.

He came through a good academy, a little bit of Premier League experience, a little bit of Championship and an England youth international.

At 23 years old he has his future in front of him; he would be a great pick up at League 1 if he finds the right home.

Don't hear Ashton talking badly about Demolition Job either.

It may have been a mess but we had no choice just to form a new team.

West Bromwich fans seemed surprised that he resolved to play in League One and said he'd rip this league up.

Still young, still a time to revive his career which has been on the on the slide.

Colchester game in the cup last year that was his chance to impress and his final act was setting up a goal for them.

There was talk of a move to Liverpool at one stage.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Starting to see gaps opening now within the group. Imagine your Piggott El Miz Yengi and Hladky will be off soon too.

Thing is we'll never know how things would have played out had we been in an alternate universe where we just 'only' needed to bring 12 in and could have been a bit more structured with it.......as it was we had Paul Cook brining in players he'd had before, Mark Ashton doing the same with WBA links, an agent doing similar and just was trying to grab everything we could so lack of structure in the window because so much needed doing

Was never the right way to play it, and made Ashton's job much harder than it needed to be

Don't think you can just say someone's got the ability to be a success just because they've got a certain background.

As it stands he's passed through the hands of 5 clubs and more managers without making a serious dent, generally with the same reviews - "looks good on the ball at times but doesn't impact games".

It's looking likelier and likelier that although he had a couple of attributes that make you stand out as a youth (technical, physical), he's missing something fundamental when it comes to senior football.

I'm quite happy with how it went. There was a lot of crap that more than outstayed their welcome, and while I wouldn't tar everyone with that same brush if there needed to be a few sacrificial lambs in the clear out process then so be it.

I think there were enough players out of contract that there was always going to be a massive clearout whatever happened - but more care needed to be taken with those still in contract but sure I've mentioned that on here before......but telling Bishop, Lankester, Downes, Dozzell, Kenlock, Jackson etc they weren't needed must have hamstrung us somewhat in any negotiations

Best of luck to him on 15:51 - Jun 28 with 1533 viewsDyland

Seemed like a good character and in that first game (was it 2-2 home draw against Morecombe or someone like that?) he looked like he could be a beast of a midfield boss, with sharp speedy passing and lots of athleticism. Then... well... he did nothing at all. When he did get the odd chance he played pretty poorly, if an admittedly pretty poor memory serves me less poorly than usual.

Anyway, good luck Rekeem, I hope you get your footy career back on track, and/or things work out for ya.

It was definitely happening, because people were saying that Harper was clearly better than Dozzell and I was trying to make the point that if that was the case QPR could have bought him for less than half the price and on much lower wages but elected not to

It was also around this point that a couple of posters claimed the only reason we got £1m for Andre, was because that was his release clause and he actually wasn't worth that - and still couldn't grasp that a release clause being triggered means you are likely selling them for less than they are worth (and certainly not more than they were worth)
