Ridiculous membership scheme 10:45 - Jul 13 with 5467 viewsonceablue

As I didn’t have Gold card last season the away games I attended don’t count so no additional points for me other than the 5 for buying membership card

Although I only did 5 away games I would have had 10 points rather than 5

Feel sorry for my Boy he didn’t have a Gold card but did 10 away games and again none of these games count

The club could easily rectify this as they will have records of tickets purchased

COME ON ITFC SORT THIS OUT

Pretty much, yes.

You'd get priority for home cup games if you wanted an extra ticket but that's it.

All here: https://www.itfc.co.uk/news/2023/july/11/new-super-blues-membership-revealed/

Cheers, you've just saved me £40, where do I send the cheque...

Ridiculous membership scheme on 10:49 - Jul 13 by ArnieM

I’ve had a text this morning from a friend who lives in Manchester and does the northern away games. They are elderly and can’t drive so uses local rail. This new membership is doing nothing for them and effectively now rules out any likelihood of ever getting a ticket to watch the Town again.

It’s an OG Mr Ashton….. an OG!

How does using the rail not drive affect membership?

Personally I think most of the northern games will go to general sale although probably not a huge number of tickets so your friend might need to be quick. If we don't get off to fast start and end up mid-table then it will only get easier.

I'd certainly be very surprised if Blackburn and Preston don't reach that level and some of the other fixtures are likely to end up on Friday or Sunday evening which will reduce demand.

And if the worst came to the worst, people with local addresses would probably be able to get tix in home stands, which of course isn't ideal, but perhaps better than nothing.

And when I spoke to the club yesterday they stated my significant away games last season would be recognised once I signed up to the Super Blue membership

Surely the main factor here is that you made the effort to attend multiple away games last season... not about membership..

So you think that having a gold card for last season should count for nothing?

The primary reason people buy gold cards is to have priority on purchasing away tickets. That is being considered when applying this new membership scenario. Basically existing members from last season get their away points carried over people who weren’t members do not.

This is fair but will not please everyone, however the majority ( last seasons gold card holders ) cannot suffer because of the minority ( those that went to a significant amount of away games but were not gold card members )

It won’t “ count for morning “.

Being a member of the new scheme auromxetically gives you “ 5 away points “. So they will start the season with 5 points

Do season tickets last season not count as 'membership'? My wife (silver card holder then half-season ticket, no away games) currently has 5 priority points whereas I (season ticket holder, 10 away games) have 0 priority points.

No they don't - as per a few posts and responses people have had.

Indeed! Gold and Ultimate memberships were there for fans who didn't want to risk missing out on away matches. Silver memberships were available for concerned fans in the wrong part of the country to justify a season ticket.

Anyone who clocked up away numbers last season without one of these memberships evidently wasn't concerned enough about priority then, when tickets were generally in much shorter supply than they will be this season. What the new system does on day one is elongate the ultimate/gold membership window, and it strings these members out according to their attendance. This may give the impression that regular ST holders are further down the queue, but in reality they were behind these very same members anyway. Of course, if they don't purchase a membership, or if they do and don't make much use of it, they will begin to find themselves slipping positions below what was previously just the traditional members.

The only discernible difference I can see (from onceablue's perspective) is that Silver members have received a boost. Arnie's friend should have been celebrating this news.* Based in Manchester he wouldn't likely have a ST, but given last season's demand he would have purchased a £30 Silver membership in order to gain priority over the general sale crowd. With these changes, farther flung blues who regularly attended away matches (and were concerned about priority access last season) receive a welcome headstart over ST holders who were not concerned about away priority. I don't know how many people this covers but they're the only new (in onceablue's case: unwelcome) competition starting above non-membership ST holders. A lot of these members probably purchased because home tickets were getting scarce and don't travel much away if at all.

*It doesn't appear that Arnie's friend is celebrating this news though, which would indicate he was at the bottom of the queue last season anyway. Still, the chance remains for him to a buy a membership and leapfrog the many thousand ST holders who were previously ahead of him, if he wishes to. Arnie should advise him this is the best shake-up he could have hoped for.

Surely if there is a priority order and a northern based fan can’t get to PR to clock up points so not much point in having a ST ( the issue of not being able to drive and elderly was my point re earlier post.getting to PR on a regular basis is almost cost prohibitive for a person on a fixed low income and having to use rail services etc)…

BUT will tickets for away games in northern clubs be that easy to come by with this new membership ? I found this on another site re the allocation of tickets to away fans… I’d think Town will easily take 2-3k to allow of away games this coming season . If the new membership means my friend is more likely to be able to get a ticket , then great. But it’s looks like to take a grandson and a partner along like they sued to do, they’ve now got to shell out £120? On a membership card for each , for the right to buy a ticket? If so, I don’t think this is particularly fair. Clearly you do.

I didn't have a Gold card either, did loads of games. Start with nothing.

That's life.

We got to see those games last season, that's what we paid for. This mentality of always wanting something for nothing, or the club picking up the bill etc. is at odds with the loyalty concept a lot of people band about.

If you want it pay the £40 and use it for what you can. If not, there's little to moan about in my opinion.

People are in for a shock if we get Prem football any time soon.

I don’t think anyone has a problem with ultimate and gold members having priority over ST holders. It’s how they’ve prioritised last seasons silver members over ST holders. All members from last season get a 5 point head start so surely it wouldn’t be that unfair to at least give ST holders a point for each away game last season. That way, those silver members who did attend away games will still have a higher priority than ST holders, but ST holders who attended many away games will have a higher priority than those silver members who attended very few / No away games.

I think it's as fair as it's likely to be - and as I said on another thread it's far too late for them to change it now

At the end of the day this membership will only really have the coming season where ‘most’ games are at 3pm on a Saturday, when more people can attend games.

The following season sees the new SKY deal coming in and 5/12 Championship games will not be at 3pm on a Saturday. There will be a lot less people willing to travel to away games on a Friday evening, Sunday lunchtime or a Monday evening. Tickets will almost certainly be easier to come by!

Unless we are in the Prem the following season…

It'll be a bigger problem next season won't it?

Only those who buy the new membership this year will have their away games from the coming season counted:

"Initially, points will be awarded historically, based on away games attended by members during the 2022/23 season. Going forward, points will only be awarded to active Super Blues members, with one point awarded for every away ticket purchased."

Would be interesting to know how many memberships they sell.
