Not a chance we are spending 8 million on one player. I’d say max we’ll pay for any player is around 3 million this window or January. Probably why we have potentially missed a few targets but I’m fine with that.
We are not loaded and have ownership that will chuck silly money. We have prudent team in charge who will invest, hence the money spent on ground, and buying young players in the 1-2 million mark that have a resale value.
We don’t have owners with deep pockets who can throw money at stuff but have access to a fund which can invest in us but it has to be sensible and prudent. Basically how a club should be run without the chance of getting into dire financial situation.
I’m happy with that. I would have hated us to pay the quoted Simms fee or the Armstrong fee if 8 million. There are plenty of players that can be attracted good enough for this level without paying inflated fees. |  |

...plus while everybody would jump at the chance of promotion this season, I'd guess the more likely unstated target is to do well, to make waves, to see one or two standout players potentially traded for biggish money next summer and to then be looking at buying these sort of players for a push for the premier league next season? |  |

You have to look at it differently than just £8m.
The cost of a transfer is spread over the contract length for FFP, assuming we’d want to sign him on a 4 year contract at least, that would be £2m towards our FFP losses each season and we can lose up to £39m over a three year period.
Certainly doable but whether we’d want to spend that sort of money on him is the bigger question for me. |  |
