Kevin Keegan getting cancelled on 13:56 - Oct 6 with 2172 views | Coastalblue | Sad old bloke trying to stay relevant and out of touch with the modern world, and yes I am old enough to have watched him play. I'm not going to lie, I wondered about female commentators just because of what was said above, the higher pitched voices, but, being a huge TMS fan that was soon proved wrong. The ladies that are on there are largely fantastic, add to the listening experience and I see no reason why football should be any different.

Kevin Keegan getting cancelled on 13:53 - Oct 6 by soupytwist | The organisation Women in Football's statement quoted in The Guardian piece on this says (in part): “In this context Keegan and people of a similar mindset have a moral obligation to keep their opinions to themselves, rather than add weight to the narrative that enables online abuse and threats of violence every day simply for doing their job.” So he's being told that he has a moral obligation to keep quiet - that might fit your or someone else's definition of being cancelled. |
It doesn’t though. An organisation has voiced their opinion in response to what Keegan stated earlier. He isn’t being cancelled at all.

Precisely this. If we're saying that an organisation or individual expressing a negative view about someone else's opinion amounts to 'cancelling' them then we've reached a pretty weird place.

Kevin Keegan getting cancelled on 12:39 - Oct 6 by FrimleyBlue | See for me I think it depends why... If its coz he doesn't value their thoughts I think it's wrong. There's no reason females can't be as knowledgeable as some of the male colleagues. If however it's about tone... then I agree and if there was a higher tone male voice commentating I'd find that off putting too. That's not because it reminds me of a female but as an enjoyable listening experience I find the tone of a voice quite important. |
"There's no reason females can't be as knowledgeable as some of the male colleagues." Just "some" of them, but not all ????????????

Kevin Keegan getting cancelled on 14:10 - Oct 6 with 2108 views | BigCommon | I like Keegan... He'll always have my respect as a footballer. One of Englands greatest ever players..We haven't had many to have won European Footballer Of The Year I think he has a right to an opinion on anything football related ..And he's already earned his money and he's too long in the tooth to give a sh1t, what the vocal wokey's think.. I'd rather listen to men commentators and pundits , for mens games. Its what I was brought up on so it feels more natural and comfortable for me. I'm slowly getting used to women commentators/pundits . But I'm not a fan of high pitch whiney voices, partly why I don't like listening to Sutton or Savage, either.. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Imo womens football hasn't been as top level as the men's for as long and there are some male colleagues who've won the lot in the sport who imo are more knowledgeable. Hence some and not all. No different to male pundits tho. They aren't all equal.

I agree with pretty much all of the statement from Women in Football as it's quoted by The Guardian, and having someone or an organisation say they disagree with you certainly is not being "cancelled", but I'm not sure about him being told that he has a moral obligation to shut up.

Yep I agree with this re the “tone” not saying females are less knowledgeable. I can’t stand Jamie Carragher whining on either. I watch Football with no commentary, I can see who a player has passed the ball to. Thousands of people at live games cope without inane chatter from commentators or pundits.

They're entitled to their view, as is keegan. Neither are immune from criticism for their views though. Everyone needs to chill out. This whole cancelled thing that's being stirred up on social media with people getting wound up all the time is getting really tedious imo.

Kevin Keegan getting cancelled on 14:24 - Oct 6 with 1999 views | JackNorthStand | He is allowed an opinion. His comments in isolation may seem out dated or wrong to some people but looking deeper into it I agree, I think it’s about qualifications. There are a lot of men who do punditry / commentate on England who I don’t think qualify either because they haven’t regular performed at world level or had failed careers. Women’s football has came on leaps and bounder over the past 10 years in particular, but the level technically and tactically at the elite level or women’s football is still some way off the mens. That doesn’t mean women can’t have an opinion or it’s wrong for them too, but from an entertainment perspective I would prefer to listen to someone who has played at the level they are commentating or giving pundtitry on.

Surely that is just down to an individuals opinion. You don't have to have won anything to be knowledgeable about a subject.

Of course it's personal opinion. But to me if you've won a champions league final. I'd take more notice of you and your take on how the occasion felt, what it was like etc and your thoughts over someone who's never played in the competition. Or if you've played against messi I'd take your view on how to stop him over someone who hasn't.

So would you take the opinion of Paul Hurst more seriously than the opinion of Kieran McKenna (he knows exactly what we need)? McKenna never kicked a ball as a professional footballer, Hurst has played over 400 games in the Football League.

Depends what they are talking about. If it was before KM managed a team and the discussion was what was it like managing a team, then yes I'd listen more to the manager as apposed to one who hadn't done it. Some thoughts are better with actual experience in the subject at hand. It's all rather dependent on what is being discussed specifically. If you asked KM and Hurst how do you feel the first half went of a game. I'd openly listen to both and enjoy both thoughts and it's open to their personal views on that half.

Kevin Keegan getting cancelled on 13:22 - Oct 6 by Swansea_Blue | It seems to be because he doesn’t value them or their thoughts. He thinks female footballers don’t have anything to contribute to discussions around men’s football. “But if I see an England lady footballer saying about England against Scotland at Wembley and she’s saying, ‘If I would have been in that position I would have done this,’ I don’t think it’s quite the same. I don’t think it crosses over that much.” https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/joey-barton-kevin-keegan-england-wo As if he’s some revered oracle lol |
Oh, I see, so what sitters meant to say was Kevin Keegan is trying to cancel women from having an opinion, but just had some of the words in the wrong order. Yea, that is worth posting about.
