He isn't being cancelled though is he. All I have seen is people telling him his opinion is stupid and hopelessly out of touch, which it is, so not sure what the problem is really.

But to me if you've won a champions league final. I'd take more notice of you and your take on how the occasion felt, what it was like etc and your thoughts over someone who's never played in the competition.
Or if you've played against messi I'd take your view on how to stop him over someone who hasn't. |
That's nonsense, you're telling me if McKenna gets an invite to be a pundit or part of a commentary team (which could end up becoming reality in the near future) you wouldn't respect his opinion compared to someone who had played in the competition or against the best.

Most football pundits (men and women) speak in cliches and truisms. You could pick any person off the street that has the vaguest interest in football and they would deliver thoughts equally as valid and insightful.

But commentary or punditry is not just about the viewpoint of someone who experienced the situation. It can be interesting but there's much more to it than that, technical knowledge, research of stats, interesting opinions and how someone delivers all that are just as important. Sad old bloke trying to stay relevant and out of touch with the modern world, and yes I am old enough to have watched him play.
I'm not going to lie, I wondered about female commentators just because of what was said above, the higher pitched voices, but, being a huge TMS fan that was soon proved wrong. The ladies that are on there are largely fantastic, add to the listening experience and I see no reason why football should be any different. |
