So the next 10 games! What do we need? What do we expect? 19:08 - Nov 12 with 5929 viewsunstableblue

If this is what we need for automatic (copyright Jimingreensboro):

“Automatics: 1.7 ppm.
• That's 51 more points from 30 matches for a total of 90 (ten-year automatic promotion average)
• Ex: win 14, draw 9, lose 9”
**EDIT - the above is 32 games not 30, so lose 7

That’s 4 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses (ish) from the mega run we’re going to start after the international break (see below). A run where you feel our current 2.44 ppg will drop to 1.7

**EDIT '1.7ppg over 10 games is 17 points, your 4/3/3 split is 15 points. We need 5 wins, 2 draws, 3 losses to hit that target, or 4 wins, 5 draws, 1 defeat (or 6 wins+'

Yes yes yes I know ‘one game at a time’… but humour me

I think wins could be - Millwall, Coventry, Norwich, QPR
Draws - West Brom, Watford, Stoke
Losses - Boro, Leeds, Leicester

Now I think we can do better… and fancy more from Leicester, Stoke and Watford games

But whoooooa what a run of games, so tightly packed, squad needed

25 Nov A West Bromwich Albion 5.30pm
29 Nov H Millwall 8pm
2 Dec H Coventry City 3pm
9 Dec A Middlesbrough 3pm
12 Dec A Watford 7.45pm
16 Dec H Norwich City 12.30pm
23 Dec A Leeds United 12.30pm
26 Dec H Leicester City 7.45pm
29 Dec H Queens Park Rangers 7.45pm
1 Jan A Stoke City 3pm

Firstly I think we might need more than 90 points this year for top two. Secondly they won't all come where we expect them otherwise we'd all be bankrupting the bookies. So we'll win some we might not expect to, like Sunderland and Southampton away and we'll drop points we don't expect to like Birmingham and Rotherham. We are in the driving seat and others will drop points too. I'd take 20 points from those 10 games in an instant, especially if we can avoid defeat to Leeds.

Yeah. Have a feeling that like last season it will be a records points total for the automatic places.

2 wins out of next 3 will get us in a solid place for December.

December.. we need just get the home wins.

Keep winning at home and we only need a handful of wins away to get a top 2 place.

I expect and hope we go out to try an win all of those games instead of falling into the the fan mentality of hedging our bets. Tough run of fixtures, but a run that those other teams will be on as well.

Whilst it's a tough looking run, it's worth noting that generally our record against the better sides has been more impressive than our record against the weaker sides. We've played 8 sides currently in the top half and 8 sides currently in the bottom half and our record is 7-0-1 versus 5-3-0, six points dropped against bottom half sides against three dropped against sides in the top half. Especially recently, sides from the bottom half have been setting up first and foremost to try and stop us playing and we've been struggling a little to readjust to that, the better teams you would expect, especially at home, may be more likely to fancy themselves to simply outplay us. Certainly going to be an interesting set of fixtures.

If we can do the classic, win one, draw one, lose one, then we make the play offs and maybe auto 2nd. 4 points out of 9 from here on in would be and incredible achievement.
I think the likes of Leeds, Southampton, WBA and Middlesbrough will trip over each other.
Leeds the most likely to push us for 2nd.
Whatever happens from here on in, I am a very happy bunny.

We're better than going 1-1-1 every three games. We've shown that so far.

I agree, but who knows what the rest of the season will bring. There are a lot of good teams in this league and teams will win and lose games you wouldn't expect.
I will be happy whatever happens.

Please can we get something from Leeds. Their fans are annoying as it is so a double over us would make them intolerable.

I have that feeling too, but it is tempered by the fact that last year there were 3 teams above the rest, whereas this year there are more like 6. Boro, Sunderland, Southampton, Leeds, us and Leicester can take points off anyone and will take points off each other thats for sure. It may well be more points required than usual, but unless that 6 becomes a 3 pretty soon, I'm not so sure we are in Sheff Wed (96pts) territory.

Worth throwing into the mix that the teams trying to catch us - mainly Leeds and Saints - will probably drop points over December as they will face a similar challenge, maybe not in terms of quality of opposition but in terms of number of games in a short space of time.

I said the other day that before the difficult December games we had a run of four games, three at home, which could help us keep or strengthen the buffer (Swansea, Millwall, Coventry at home, WBA away). Win the three home ones and draw away and the gap to Leeds will be bigger than now. One win so far.

I do wonder if we may need something around what we got last year coming up from league one and still finishing second. Definitely take that all day long. Going to be so much harder than last season though.

10-15 points would be satisfying but a drop of on what we’ve been used to, below 10 and we will be looking up and down probably!

Over 20 and the party starts.

Anyway, Carrot Root is falling down.

It is shaping up that way. Leeds and Southampton are more likely to go on a run than fall away. Leicester have points in the bank, as do we. I would not be at all surprised to see a gap emerge between 4th & 5th, or maybe 3rd & 4th. 96pts should be enough...
Over the next 10, I think we need to win 4/5 at home, 1/5 away, and scavenge a couple of draws, to give us 17pts from 10. Our lead over 3rd would shrink, but we would likely still be top-2.
Win v Leicester or Leeds would do us the world of good, draws ok...

I just think we'll need around 28 wins for auto... so keep chalking them off and it gets more achievable with every passing win. 16 from the remaining 30 could well do it IMO. I appreciate its simplistic thinking like...

I think we go full steady Eddie, drawing away, winning at home.
Meaning when we face leeds a draw for us would be a great result on the road with them making no ground on us.

I actually see us beating Leicester Boxing Day too.

We’ll be good again... one day

Oof it's a tough run unstable!

West Brom at home have won 5, drawn 2, lost 1.
Middlesbrough at home just dispatched Leicester and are a top team despite their poor start.
Watford at home have won 4, drawn 3, lost 2.
Leeds at home have won 5, drawn 3.
Leicester away have won 7, lost 1.
Norwich could be anything.
And so many games in such short time!

Your toughest run on paper is occasionally your easiest on the pitch but more often these sentiments amount to wishful thinking. Look at Southampton: they had a horror run themselves at the start, lost a series of matches and have since rebounded following a much kinder period. If we're still 2nd after Leicester away on January 20th I think we'll have done brilliantly.

I just can't call West Brom

Boro a serious test.

Watford have creeped up to 5th in form table

Leeds have a very strong attack, especially on their left, which is our achilles heel

Leicester have an amazing squad but have lost the last two

Norwich a complete lottery, but I fancy us, think this crop of players get the derby as so connected to community

And agree its such a packed fixture list.. but we do have some depth.. and Burns returning is huge. Axel, Harness, Hutchison, Edmundson, Scarlett these are good back-up
