Just off the top of my head, have we missed more than we've scored?! Feels like we barely get given them and then they don't go in when we do!

Indeed. Gone are the days I think when you can have just the one specialised penalty kick taker. Nowadays, there is a good chance they'd have been subbed off when you get one. When it was only one sub on the bench and Warky playing every 90 minutes it was different.

I'm guessing the likes of Ladapo/Jackson taking one apiece was due to the first choice taker being off the field, or maybe even completing a hat-trick or getting one as a confidence boosting goal when the game was already won.

Burns strikes a clean ball too!

Bristol City report by Vegtablue 7 Mar 16:35
Davis is performing below his xG as it happens. Maybe the dead-ball nature of penalties would suit much better, but he hasn't shown shooting prowess in open play.

Chaplin's overall penalty record is 4:5. With us he's 5:2, so better, but in the league it's 1:2.

Broadhead's overall record is good, 5:1. With us he's 2:1.

Hirst overall is 8:2. 1:0 with us.

Al-Hamadi is 1:3. Wimbledon took him off penalty duties and we should too.

Our cleanest striker of the ball is Taylor, but he often isn't on the pitch and has only taken 1 penalty before (scored for us in the cup). JCH was penalty-taker at Posh, probably written into his contract!

Broadhead and Chaplin were on the pitch when Hirst took his penalty, which was won by Taylor, so my guess is George was the nominated guy prior to his injury.

My first pick would be Moore if on the field. His overall record is 7:2, but he's also 7:0 since his early misses in lower league. He was Cardiff's penalty-taker and scored all 5.

Burns' record is 1:0, same as Taylor. Leif is unblemished (0:0).

I saw that earlier and thought it was really interesting, thank you. I was wondering whether Leif would be a good option given his wand of a left foot, but whipping in a cross is different to psyching out a keeper. I hadn’t realised Kieffer’s record was so good - seems like a no-brainer to me when he’s on the pitch. Al Hamadi shouldn’t be anywhere near them based on last night. But despite his miss it felt wrong to me before he took it. He’s stepping up, came on late as a sub, still adjusting, etc. It felt like a bad call at the time, but then we didn’t have an obvious alternative.

A few stats on the subject:

Tommy Miller scored 17 from 17 for Town;

Warky scored 56 from 62.

Generally accepted professional footie rate is around 75%, although recently in Prem it’s been approaching 90%!

Record under McK is 64%, so way below average, perhaps a ‘detail’ or ‘fine margin’ he can work on?!

Have we ever had someone chip one down the middle? Always seems to me that one's put down the middle have a very high success rate and it's much easier to get right than sticking one firmly inside the post.

Brilliant record for Miller. Was one of his 17 kicks a re-taken one after the first effort was saved or am I imagining it?

No, you’re right. He had one saved in that mad 3-4 against Forest but scored the re-take.

What about the one Miller had saved that Pablo tried to bundle over the line, that for some reason got re-taken? (Obviously he scored it).

In terms of technique and hitting a clean ball - I'd go for Chaplin and Davis. Don't think it was right for Al Hamadi to take that pen. Should have been Chappers as he's the senior pro. Just find it odd because Chappers is often trying to fight to take a 25 yard free-kick, yet turns down a penalty. Something needs to be sorted in training as we've got to improve on penalties. If its purely a mental thing - then maybe it's Morsy. Strongest character out there.
For me, Chaplin has the technique. Steer clear of being too fancy - but I'm sure he can pick a spot and hit a ball sweetly.

Darren Bent took that one. I think Miller took over as taker later that season.
