What the hell is it about Portman Road?
I've been going for 45 years and can honestly say that currently the 'support' does not warrant what is going on on it.
Is it that Blue Action have moved?
Is it that all the songs have become chintzy proto pop rip offs?
Is it the disconnect between upper and lower tiers- especially in the North?
Is it that we are so in awe of the wonders on the pitch that we get tongue tied or complacent?
I've got all Victor Meldrew about this before but today was crap and people really need to sort it out?
I know it's not just me because all away fans remark on it.
Maybe football is, after all, the new religion. Nobody sings in church either.

It’s fairly obvious to me. Start a classic song and it gets loud. Start one of the tin pot new ones and hardly anyone joins in. On the whole there has been a noticeable decrease in atmosphere since Christmas. First half of the season the ground was rocking. | | | |

It wasn't quieter than normal. It was a piss easy 6 nothing where the opposition rolled over, the crowd bubbly throughout. Not as loud as Bristol etc, for obvious reasons.
I prefer to go by, was the crowd positive and the game enjoyable?

Perhaps fair. The game was over in the 48th minute when the 4th went in. That's when quite a lot left. I'm not going to begrudge anyone leaving in that situation not that I would.
Those that stayed out sang the majority of our ground and they never really turned against their players. I think they gave pretty impressive account of themselves yesterday as a fan base. Again, I don't think there is much to be sour about.

The Wednesday fans were singing "is this a library" literally minutes after the SBR Stand had been singing loudly. This happened several times yesterday and tbh we say this about nearly every away ground and not sure its ever really true there either.
Fans sitting at other end of the ground saying that its quiet is a common theme at several stadiums it seems, but not sure its really such an issue. | | | |

I'm always mindful of being respectful to seasoned supporters.
I was NSL and it seemed fine in there yesterday.
I there was any lack of atmosphere it was because the game was relatively easy and the team didn't really need rousing to push on and get a result.
Bit of an odd post really, but it's probably on it's way to an undeserved 3 pages, so well done there I suppose. |  |

Depends entirely where you sit, down by Sir Bobby Wednesday fans were inaudible throughout the game because of constant Town singing.
The Sir Alf has always been more quiet ... like every football ground in the country some parts are noisier than others ... so away fans at Ipswich inevitably get a skewed perspective.
And if you have been going 45 years then by God you've got a dreadful memory, in the Fergie or Duncan years half empty Portman Road was a cauldron of silence, you had more chance of developing tinnitus in a library.
Currently averaging a club record of nearly 29,000 (let down only by some very poor away followings), Town taking more away than most in the division and yet our support is still not good enough for some ... a tad bizarre. |

I've sat in various stands this season, and it is the stadium acoustics, ever since the SAR and SBR stands were erected. Sit in the Cobbold upper, next to the away fans and you cant hear the SBR lower at all - that's why they always sing 'football in a library'. Same in the SAR stand, you can barely hear the SBR. In the Pioneer (yes I know) stand the SBR are loud and in the Cobbold lower, really loud - similarly you can barely hear any away fans.
