Town’s most forgettable XI 19:03 - Apr 9 with 4574 viewsselondonblue23

Inspired by seeing mention of Ben Pringle on an earlier thread - whose Town career almost entirely passed me by - I thought I’d pick an XI of players who I can basically not remember playing for us.

A lot of loanees obviously - my only rule was they have to have actually played. So no Paddy Kenny, Jason Brown of Sean St Ledger.

A lot of these were decent Div 1/Championship players elsewhere (and some even did OK for us), but they’re the kind of players I actually have to check played for us. I’ve gone for a workmanlike, snap-your-hand-off-for-a-point 4-5-1.

Other players very much welcome. Who’s been cruelly overlooked? Any centre forward options? Macken still feels a bit obvious to me.

(Also serves as a nice reminder of how good we are at present, regardless of how the next few weeks go!)

How can this thread have reached fifty points without a mention of Larsen Toure.....although maybe he is actually extremely memorable for his unique corner kick routine?

Steve Stacey. Signed.played 15 minutes, broke his leg and that was it. Poor Steve.

Although is remembered as the first black player to play a first-team game for Town, and also the first African American to play in English football. Made three appearances in total. Had him on Life's a Pitch some years back. Audio link now won't work.

Rory Fallon is a good one. Think it was a short term loan from Plymouth.

And that guy we signed from MK Dons under cook and then let go to Charlton almost immediately?

Chris Goteni. Signed by Mick from some lower league French club.

Not sure if he ever played though so might not count but he’s pretty forgettable.

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

Mark Fish is definitely memorable for an almost movie-like end of career. The guy who won’t retire, finally gets a game for a new club, doesn’t even last a half, is subbed and never seen again

Surely anyone who gets in such an XI has to pass the "Who was that bloke who..?" test.

As in: "Who was that bloke who came on loan at the same time as Ben Pringle and there was some hope he might be a decent wide midfielder with a cross and shot on him, and he was rubbish, and then one time we were playing a League One game and he was playing against us and it was almost Half Time before I said "Didn't he play for us on loan a couple of seasons ago?""

Him. What was his name? Him. He should be in the team.

Also that lanky New Zealand forward.

And that bloke who has a name that's similar to Ollie Watkins, but was so forgettable that when Ollie Watkins was called up to the England squad I said "Isn't he that one who was terrible for us on loan? What's he doing in the England squad?"

Although you’re joking, I think Liam Feeney meets that criteria

Glen Keeley. 4 apps for us in the early 70s then went onto Blackburn and Newcastle Humanrightswatch FC. I seem to remember him having an absurdly long neck!

Now the latter is forgettable. The former I couldn't remember until you mentioned but I still don't recall Kenny actually playing for us!

Just looked it up, Bywater had 17 appearances, Kenny didn't get a single one. I do recall Kenny on the pitch doing the end of season lap, I think that's as close as he got!

John Stirk at right back. Played in our 3-0 win against Barcelona. I was there but can't remember a thing about him.

John Linford anyone?

He popped up yesterday on 'Bobby Robson Ipswich years and i had no idea who he was. apparently he was in our UEFA Cup squad of 1981. Came on as sub v AS Roma for his only Town appearance

Marco Holster. I was so excited when we signed another Dutchman but after watching him against (I think Grimsby) I realised he was played like An old Moorhen. Not Arnold Muhren

I thought he was an Irish gunslinger but I must have been confusing him with Mark O'Holster.
