Got faith in Phil, but still slightly twitchy that the EADT boys haven't out anything out yet.

Please take no offense Phil, but would their level of confidence in a story have to be higher than your own you think?

Although your implication was sources in the club? So would assume they hear the same things.

Really? I think most of the football community will be surprised he hasn't gone there. I am a bit given their interest was so strong. Very glad he hasn't, obviously!

Do you think there's an element that the interest from Chelsea and Man Utd. helped us keep KMcK here? Maybe that persuaded him that he doesn't need to move to a "stepping stone" club to be offered one of those jobs going forward. I think we know now he's talented enough to manage a Top 6 team, and he's openly said he wants to manage a club playing in European competition.

Regardless of how we do this season, can also look at how Vincent Kompany's reputation doesn't seem to have taken a hit despite the season that Burnley had too...

Can't speak for them but have no doubt my story - and basically that of all the nationals and Sky as well - is where things are. Worth pointing out, if you want something to back that up, through the same sources I've reported that Maresca was Chelsea's top target, then that Chelsea had moved on from KMc.

Nothing needed to back up what you say Phil. You say it as you know it and see it at the time, so that’s enough.

I personally don’t think Brighton is a step up. Not because they don’t have a better stadium, facilities and a lot more money, but what can he ever achieve there? Mid table PL is as good as it’s going to get (a great achievement) but they’re already there. If he goes and they fall back, no chance of a big six job.

Keep the Brighton bus going, he might be in luck. At Ipswich he will be seen as somebody who backed himself. If we are relegated, the blame will fall on the PL/EFL structure and ITFCs relative weakness. If we survive, he will have cemented his name through that on top of his previous year’s achievement. He will have proven his methods can work in the PL.

With regard to the OP, let’s hope we see an official end to this today.

It amazes me that people can't see the gap between the two clubs presently.

We've just been promoted with probably a mod table Championship squad at best. Our best player has now returned to Chelsea and doesn't appear likely to return. Next season is a massive ask for KM to keep us out of the bottom 3 and will almost certainly be his biggest achievement if he was to succeed.

We will be backed by the owners, we can be certain of that and my only real hope is that 1 or 2 may get points deductions and that there maybe another one we can finish above.

It was a move that made sense had we not got promoted.

Look, I appreciate Brighton are 3-4 years ahead of us at the moment, but there’s nothing he couldn’t achieve at Brighton that he couldn’t achieve here.

Do you really believe that nothing has been going on? Because it certainly has. KMc wouldn't be about to sign a new contract if the interest, the discussions with representatives and US directors flying over for talks weren't very real. Brighton even thought they'd got him.

Yeah, but apart from that Phil…!

It would also be good if his new contract has a higher break/compensation clause than the current reported £6m to protect the club, because I can see all this media circus repeating itself this time next year. Particularly if we have a good season ahead, which of course, I hope we do!

I don't get why Brighton aren't seen as a step forward from a manager's perspective. Established in the Premier League and a squad to match that, great ownership, best analytics set-up there is from what I've been told. It's a great step if you're looking to then move to a bigger club. Town have done very well to persuade him to stay here.

I just see Brighton as having this more established tag thst comes with the PL money for the last 5 years. But are we so very far behind them with our Club’s POTENTIAL. Yes it’s unrealised , but god anyone can see what’s happened since GameChanger have come here. Who’s to say Town cannot continue to make these phenomenal strides. Being “ established” gives you done headway, but please people don’t dismiss what Ipswich is now as a club and will be in the near future. This is why I’m saying Brighton is nothing more than a sideways step for KM. But I ask, which if the two clubs is bigger and more importantly, has the greater potential? KM resigning for us gives you that answer I feel and I personally couldn’t be more happy with that.

Sorry if that upsets some on here and thank you Phil, for decent response, as usual.

I think it's balancing risk. He could have gone there but had he failed in their eyes after 9 months could have been out. They are or have been close to the ceiling of what they can achieve recently which has raised expectations as well.

Unfortunately no break clause really protects the club, release fees isn't really a big driver in decision making for the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea.

Also need to understand that it's not in McKenna interests to sign a new contract with a massive release. Hopefully it'll be bigger but possibly staggered with an exception amount for United.

We're just going to have to accept that speculation and approaches come with having an exceptional manager. It's a situation we haven't had to deal with for a long time.

Maybe given the Maresca and Kompany appointments KM realised Brighton would be an unecessary stepping stone?

Most have us down as relegated already so it probably won’t harm his reputation unless we are thumped 5-0 every week.

There are other factors too - Brighton he’d have little to no say in transfers, whereas Portman Road is his kingdom…

As much as we all want to believe the latest news, there's always that horrible nagging thought that this is a last attempt by the agent to maybe push up a Brighton contract offer. Don't think I can relax 100% until the club put something out.

Watch Mike Ashton’s interview on Town TV from last week. See also Stuart Watson’s excellent recent vlog. Everything that has happened this past week, although inelegant, has been speculation.

The club haven’t been approached by another club to formally speak with KM. Therefore, there is nothing to report!

Sky TV, newspapers, websites, need something to fill the relative empty time of off-season, and we’ve been the victim of that this week.

The interview with Ashton was very telling when you look back as he obviously knew a lot was coming in the next few days ( i assumed he just meant transfers at the time).

Apparently De Zerbi was on around 1.5m a year, so it seems unlikely Brighton are going to get anywhere near our (reported) contract offer.

From the outside Brighton obviously looks like a step up, but the manager has much less control there. If the ultimate goal is the Utd. job. It isn't necessary to move to another stepping stone club. KM has started something at ITFC and it would be a forever "what if" on whether he could have kept the amazing journey going. The bar for success for Brighton would be much higher than what he would be judged on at ITFC. If we struggle at the start of the season, KM won't get sacked and he could even turn things around. He doesn't have any credit in the bank at Brighton.
That's not even talking about disrupting his family, and also the investment that he makes in ITFC will also payoff further down the line.

I think they would have been surprised that he jumped ship for a mid table club without giving us one more year.

I didn't think he would join them, and I'm pleased he didn't.

I hope he's not damaged his relationship with the players.

I think the players will all understand considering all your options.
It is not healthy to have "what if"s hanging over you.
The fans should just accept that it was a tempting offer, he considered it and chose ITFC. Now we all get behind him exactly the way we did before. There is absolutely no reason to hold a grudge.

No one thinks that we are on the same level as Brighton. It is just a lot of us think we have greater potential. To be fair, whichever team KM is in charge of would probably become the greater side.
Let's just see where our momentum will take us. We have very ambitious owners who also have the special ingredient of being competent or at least appointing great people in positions that those people know what they are doing.

Everyone is still over thinking though.

Simple fact (I hope) is that there's a project going on here and McK has a chance to be even more in demand. He's clearly very ambitious and confident, and why can't Town cement themselves in the EPL a la Brighton? What an opportunity for him. Obviously as a side product he can also be a legend at ITFC but he's probably not thinking along those lines.

Brighton is an obvious "stepping stone" in the current climate, but it's also an obvious and achievable challenge to stay at ITFC and get us competing in the top flight.

Too many fans putting ITFC down, and the squad, as they did after promotion to Championship. Aye I get it's an even bigger step up and I agree there are 8 strong additions or whatever needed. Why can't we continue proving people wrong? It's a tough ask, but so what. It is doable.

If and it's still an if McK does indeed stay there are lots of people who have just looked silly the last week or so. Not including Phil in that obviously, because of course there have been extensive efforts to pry McK away and of course a media outlet will report within reason speculation and news. Nonetheless, a lot of the reporting (not TWTD) has been written as truth when it was still largely speculative. As proven.

What fun being part of the circus eh?

David Walsh wrote a typically excellent piece in the Times about how McK should deffo stay at Town, but to your point still ended it saying he wished McK luck whatever he chose to do.

I'd like to state I always thought he was staying so will be the one looking silly if he does actually sod off!

Not to say Brighton isn't an established club with a great squad and McK could do well there, but key is backing himself (confident and ambitious) to do something fooking amazing at ITFC.
