EADT silence making me twitchy 23:34 - May 27 with 18498 views | Samuelowen88 | Got faith in Phil, but still slightly twitchy that the EADT boys haven't out anything out yet. Please take no offense Phil, but would their level of confidence in a story have to be higher than your own you think? Although your implication was sources in the club? So would assume they hear the same things.

"Nearly left" Sorry, I think it's nonsense to suggest players will somehow perform less effectively (cos that's the nub of this theoretical question) just because McK has looked at other jobs. All managers look at their options when they opps present themselves. Any decent, clever ones do anyway. Not aimed at you this, but there are a lot of Town fans getting their knickers in a twist over normal business dealings and it's pretty pathetic.

I know it's a new thing, but we really have to get used to the idea of our manager being coveted. He has a lot of other options, and yet he stayed with us. Did the interest from Crystal Palace derail our season last time? As part of being a professional footballer, you have to deal with all the background noise and just get on with things. KM has shown 100% commitment to the job that he is undertaking.

EADT silence making me twitchy on 07:16 - May 28 by ArnieM | I just see Brighton as having this more established tag thst comes with the PL money for the last 5 years. But are we so very far behind them with our Club’s POTENTIAL. Yes it’s unrealised , but god anyone can see what’s happened since GameChanger have come here. Who’s to say Town cannot continue to make these phenomenal strides. Being “ established” gives you done headway, but please people don’t dismiss what Ipswich is now as a club and will be in the near future. This is why I’m saying Brighton is nothing more than a sideways step for KM. But I ask, which if the two clubs is bigger and more importantly, has the greater potential? KM resigning for us gives you that answer I feel and I personally couldn’t be more happy with that. Sorry if that upsets some on here and thank you Phil, for decent response, as usual. |
Who's to say not, but the point currently is that Brighton are several seasons ahead of us and in terms of managerial career development are probably a better stepping stone towards getting a big club. That's not dismissing Town, it's just pointing out the current differences between the clubs. That could change in the years to come, certainly. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

This is something that concerns me for next season, I am sure many town fans feel we're bigger than Brentford, Brighton, Bournemouth (all the B's so far) - when all three have many years of premier league building ahead of us. While our history might be bigger, we're very much the new kids on the block here and others will be expecting us to fight for survival I am pretty sure.

I have to strongly disagree with the stepping stone remark. As a manager you are judged on your starting position, and your finishing position. At Ipswich he has started in League One, and so if he keeps us in the League, his stock will go up again. At Brighton, De Zerbi has already got Brighton to 6th position, so he would really have to do better than that to be considered a success there. Even he managed 6th, he would be considered to have 'only done what De Zerbi' did. Even then, if he managed to get them top 4, he would largely be considered to have done it off the back of others hard work and other people laying the foundations for him, ala 'any fool could have done it'. So he would be setup to fail there from day 1.

EADT silence making me twitchy on 00:19 - May 28 by Marshalls_Mullet | Theyve sold their best players, and arguably peaked. Limited opportunity to do better than the 6th thay they achieved a year ago. Higher expectation levels. Probably more downside risk than Ipswich. Potential reputational damage, I think most of the footballing community would be surprised had he jumped ship for Brighton. |
Brighton as a selling team have done well. We have been told that Town don't need to sell. There comes a time when continually selling will catch up on a club because however good you are at replacing players it only takes a couple of mistakes in the transfer market and your down. Brighton are currently in a better position than Town as they are established and as I have alluded to Town could need to bring in up to 10 players to replace those having gone back to their clubs, those having already left and those that might leave. Probably made up of two or three signings and some loan players with scope to bring in two or three in January.

We might not need to sell at the moment but we will need to, and one of the reasons we're going for younger players who will have a much higher value after a few years of McKenna's coaching.

“That could change in the years to come, certainly.” I think KM’s focus will have been on that aspect, particularly given his age, stage of career and meteoric rise to date. The world’s his oyster right now, a stepping stone isn’t needed.* *I think that part of your post, and your other references to Brighton being a potentially good move for his career, is probably the first time I’ve disagreed with you on a football matter in 25 years!

Alternatively, they have seen their manager turn down two moves to established Premier League teams in the space of three months. If that doesn't create a sense of loyalty then I don't know what will. I'd be interested to see what KMac has managed to get himself promised in terms of budgets etc next season as part of the deal to keep him here.

A mass influx could be disastrous, particularly in terms of team spirit - you’ve only got to look back at Burley’s relegation from the Prem season. I’d hope 5 or 6 judicious signings at most would be enough.

I don't see that. If he had kept Brighton in the area they have been for the last few seasons that would have been seen as success and attracted interest from elsewhere. Staying up next season would be an achievement with Town, so that would get some plaudits no doubt but I think it would be more difficult to have a season which would catch the eye of bigger clubs. Not saying it's impossible, just more difficult.

I beg to differ there Phil Brighton are where they are. If he went there and didn't actually improve their standings but just did what their last manage did then he's not done anything of note. Keeping town up or finishing midtable or even higher then he's put himself in the window even more than he already has imo. Had he gone to Brighton and failed he could have blown his chances for a few years. If town go down its expected so its not a massive negative against him. He'll just go again.
