No I’m not. I stand by it. He’s doing a great job but for me the most important people at a football club will always be the players and manager.

Ashton's the real MVP. As said elsewhere here, he's been instrumental in turning so much around, from the ground, to the community outreach and culture, to identifying McKenna's talent and bringing him here. Rather than looking for a better job after promotion, he got a Town tattoo. That's commitment, and he has a lot of credit in the bank with me. Big up to the ownership so far too. I cringe watching other owners trying to get involved in team selection and thank my stars every time that we seem to have really smart people involved.

Well, he did scout, interview and persuade McKenna to join us in the first place when he wasn't really well known, so Ashton can take a bit of credit for everything McKenna has done in my view

Ashton identified and persuaded McKenna to come, and has kept him in the face of serious outward pressure.

Without Ashton (and Gamechanger and the cash) there would be no McKenna and his top notch staff. Don't forget Pert et al too.

And credit to Mark Ashton's Mum who took a chance on Mark Ashton's Dad despite him being (probably) a bit like David Brent. Without her there would be no Mark Ashton, and thus no McKenna.

Not a Mummy. Don't have short arms.

Managers can be as good as they like and Kieran is certainly good, but without the owners putting money in, the CEO and backroom staff and of course the players buying in to what Kieran say's sadly he fails. How many managers have got the sack because players won't play for them ? How many managers fail because the owner believes he knows more about how the team should play and who should be bought. All must pull in the same direction, which they have for two seasons now. All those involved in McKenna staying should take a bow. We know that eventually he will go to pastures new. Right now ITFC is the right place for him as he has a chance to make a real mark. To maintain a Premier League place with a rookie team will enhance his reputation even more and will prove how good he is. But again, we must not forget those behind him. There's a very true saying that in life you should "Never forget those you meet on the way up as you never know who you will meet on the way down".

Sorry, I disagree. The owners, Chairman and CEO have been pivotal to the revival of this club. Without them, no structure, no investment, no organisation, no culture you have a football club just where Evans left it heading out of the football league.

McKenna and his staff have been brilliant and rightly get the headlines. Absolute stars and I have a sneaky feeling the PL are in for a bit of a shock. But they have been a perfect fit for what the club wanted to do, not the other way around.

If McKenna had left (or when he eventually leaves), the club structure will be able to withstand it and a new man an his staff will slot in. As good? Doubtful, but who knows.

Yes, I get the irritating Brentish/ bullsh1t bingo stuff and he’s of course made mistakes. People who do stuff always make mistakes. However, Ashton and the owners above him have got far more right than wrong and he’s been crucial to the last three years and this club growing at a rate beyond my wildest dreams.

Spot on Churchman. We / I don’t see it though strongly suspect O’Leary’s input is invaluable.

And thus no Wolfie at the back and Chaplin in attack.

Jeez. To think we came THAT close to having to rewrite that whole song.

Bet at the end of last season when it had all died down but he was hoping for a few weeks in the sun somewhere.

Then all the gossip about McKenna came along. Now that is out of the way he now has to concentrate on bringing in the new players McKenna is asking for.

He needs a breather and sadly I am not sure when he will get one.

Maybe a week in a caravan at Felixstowe near the docks!!!!

I don’t think he necessarily just understands the culture of the club, he is instrumental in shaping the culture of improvement. He's barely put a foot wrong for three years.

McKenna, Ashton, Blue Action and Ed Sheeran have all contributed a hell of a lot to the last 3 years. My hat off all of them. And the owners for getting them all in on the journey.

This is hugely under appreciated - Ashton is critical, he preceded KM and I expect him to stay as and when KM moves on - he now understands the club culture and I imagine will already have prepared what to do should we lose KM, both in a short term and more strategically.

Posture posture 👌

Thanks to Bobby Robson who took the club from strength to strength, and only left once he'd won the UEFA cup for the biggest job in the land England. After that, he toured Europe influencing clubs and players from Holland to Portugal to Spain. In Portugal then Spain he took onboard a translator, a football knowing translator who recognised coaching was achievable for himself, Jose Mourinhio then took management in Portugal after Barcelona, winning the European Cup. Big clubs then approached him and Chelsea won him over, where he built upon their platform to turn them into multiple champions. After this Inter and Real Madrid. Before a shot at restoring Man United to the top, he came close. It was there he saw Kieran McKenna working patterns with the youth team, and just like Bobby brought Jose alongside, he pulled in Kieran as a first team coach after talking with him. Kieran progressed, and tool his first management job at Ipswich, leading them on to success finally, bringing this story full circle, rhe link through back to Bobby.

I agree he can, I’m not saying he’s not done a great job because he has. He deserves a huge amount of credit. Put it another way though if we had to lose one of the two who would you least like to go?

I'd be more worried to lose Ashton because we haven't even considered that eventuality. We're all pretty well prepared for KM to leave next season. If he doesn't it's a bonus.

Important definitely but I don’t agree that his contribution is equal to KM’s or is even close. Irrelevant really though because we still have both and together along with the many others who all play a part we’re in great shape.

The man bloody appointed him for a start. McKenna can’t achieve half the things he has done without support of Ashton. He deserves plenty of credit. No one is saying it’s equal but to say it’s not even close I feel is a little disrespectful to MA.

We know KM has ambitions to manage at the "highest level", which would be at one of the "big" clubs that monopolise trophy winning etc. Think Ashton has similar ambitions to be a CEO at the "highest level".

He's just as important to this journey as Kieran. He's dedicated the last 3 years of his life to restoring the good times here. We should never forget that, no matter how Brent-esque he may be.

Absolutely - and he'll be here long after Kieran goes
