Do we think we will be after Ben Sheaf ? on 11:01 - Jun 2 with 5820 views | bournemouthblue | I don't know enough about him to make a judgement but Coventry fans seem to be suggesting he will be expensive? We most definitely need a centre midfielder with pace and energy who can eat up the yards and cover for Morsy or Luongo in my opinion A Kante type ideally, it would suit our game Is Sheaf that sort of player, I only saw glimpses of him for Coventry in their cup run [Post edited 2 Jun 2024 16:25]

When the Southampton central midfield brought that bit more energy, quality and pace to Portman Road, Morsy and Luongo we really struggled. We were battered from Leif's goal at 13mins all the way to 61mins. Then Taylor was introduced and we looked a different team. In the Premier League central midfield is key, and we need to bring real quality and pace in. As much as I love Luongo I don't see him playing many games. Is Sheaf good enough? I don't know. I'd use Downes as the benchmark, who I assume is going back to West Ham to fight for his place under the new manager.

Do we think we will be after Ben Sheaf ? on 11:44 - Jun 2 with 5546 views | Metal_Hacker | I personally think midfield is hugely important as others have said , midfield in the Prem is a huge upgrade or anything in the Champ Whoever it is that we purchase I think they’ll be not only be a player with huge physicality and pace but also a leader for the future. Jack Taylor could be a player this season. Think he’ll definitely pull in the plaudits It’s gonna be interesting who we’re looking at for sure

A central midfield of Taylor and Sheaf is exciting. Both have energy and a goal in them.

I could see us playing 4-3-2-1 next season. a midfield 3 of Sheaf, Morsy and Taylor would be fantastic.

He could be sort of a Rice type midfielder perhaps Got the legs , aggressive , tidy on the ball , likes a shot

Much more Declan rice than Kante. Very very good. Very rarely is he not Cove try best player. He's like Morsy is that he is always at least 7/10. No real weaknesses and would be a natural successor to Morsy. A better footballer than Morsy and very combative as well. Has a higher ceiling than Morsy for me but then Morsy brings some intangibles and raises everyone's game.

I'd be astonished if Taylor is a starter for us next season. Seen lots of people having the view next season is Taylors time. I like Taylor but I can't see him being further head in the pecking order that last year. It is more likely the other way. I hope he stays and think he will but I think he will have his work cut out. Certainly don't think he is strong enough back to goal to play 10.

I'm presuming in that line up he is an advanced midfielder in a 3 rather than a 10. Only way Taylor cracks it is if we have a slight formation change in the Prem which I think is possible. Always felt we signed him and yet he didn't fit into the system we play because he is just a different player than we need in the Luongo/Morsy role.

For tackles made for a central midfielder Morsy was first, Sheaf was second and Luongo was 8th last year. For context, Downes made about half of Sheaf's numbers. He definitely looks to be a player that would step into that role. I've only seen a limited amount of him, but as other have said, looks good on the ball and has more legs than our current pairing.

Taylor has always been a 10, best position at PBoro, not going to stick my head out and say he's a Prem player, but he can defend from that position too which could be very useful.. He still hasn't really had a decent run of games here, now we're asking him to step straight into the Prem as a 10? That's the issue...

I really hope these are the type of players we are looking at. I don't want any big name old guard type players. I am sure Kieran and Mark know what they are doing and trust that once the window opens, we will find out more. I am enjoying all the guess work and rumors though.

Downes would be a perfect successor to Morsy really but I suspect Southampton's promotion scuppers that one for us, that's his likely destination if West Ham don't just hold onto him I always assumed he would succeed Declan Rice

I think Taylor will be better suited to the Prem than the Championship and will grow for us Morsy and Luongo are the wrong side of 30 and much as I love them, I think we'll only get away with one of them against PL midfields

Not sure. I can't see how a player who couldn't get a start for us in the Champ will the be stepping in to a perm midfield. If we changed to 3 in midfield which I think is unlikely, we would be signing two starters I imagine

So, we might as well sell him then? I like him and I would even go back in for Travis.

I think that it was always going to be hard to put him in regularly ahead of Morsy and Luongo last season, but I can imagine that Luongo in particular and possibly Morsy to an extent will not be quite such fixtures next season and so this is where I believe Taylor will get his chance.

Id keep Taylor. Still good enough to be part of a match day squad, gives good energy. Just can't see him now being a starting midfield without really threatening that all season. We will need better. Travis I dont get. Did his job when needed but is just nowhere near good enough to be a premier league midfielder.

If Morsy and Luongo feature less next season. Which I think will be the case with Mass. It will be because we have upgraded that area of the pitch. Downes, Hamer, Sheaf, Lokonga. The sort of players we should be looking at imo.

I’m not so sure, Downes stood at the Soton promotion party and when asked his reply was ‘IRONS’ Weird bloke
