‘Scary high fees’ 19:58 - Jun 3 with 5081 views | SitfcB | Why are some of our fans so adamant that we’re aren’t going to spend ‘£15/20million’ on a single player this summer? Because NEWS FLASH… I think we will, and it’ll probably be more than 1! That’s probably about the going rate for decent Premier League players these days, no? Now I don’t expect us to go down the Burnley route or even worst the Forest route but I can see us making 2/3 additions and the prices being like that for each one. The Premier League has changed so much since we were last in it, and these old timers who are saying these are scary prices obviously haven’t followed the PL since then. Confident in the fact we will still be sensible but it’s a bit naïve to think we won’t spend just because our record signing was £4.5mill 20+ years ago!! A. We’ve got a bit of cash now. B. We’re not rotting in the Championship for our 20th consecutive season. Ok it’s happened a bit quicker than we thought but we all wanted these days to come, don’t be scared or anxious about it. ‘Scary high fees’ on 20:07 - Jun 3 with 4036 views | J2BLUE | You've replied to opinions with your opinion. So not really a news flash. Just doesn't seem our style to spend £20m. I wouldn't be surprised if we get 8-10 £10m players. Some a little more, some a little less. GC have always been the right player at the right price type of owners. Omari may be the £20m man as we know what we're getting and McKenna knows him but I can't see us spending £20m on anyone else. Of course we might do.

‘Scary high fees’ on 20:09 - Jun 3 with 4000 views | Swansea_Blue | It'll be interesting to see what happens. If we're going to start paying £20M on players, I think that will need to owners to put in significantly more cash and (a) I'm not sure whether they want to do that , and (b) whether we've the headroom in FFP (or whatever it's called in the PL). I don't know what the position is on both of those points. You'd be surprised at how quickly the money goes. Burnley didn't spend £20M on anyone last year. They did spend a lot on fees though though - about £95M. The amortisation on that lot now they're in the Championship is going to hammer their finances.

Could’ve used £8/10mill as examples as well to be fair as seen people say even that’s way too high and we won’t spend that sort of money!

I’m fairly certain that we’ve gone longer than any other professional football team since we last broke our transfer record. Not surprising at all.

The best way to do that is to get us established.

So use to us shopping in the bargain basket that now we can take something straight off the peg is just new. Exciting times and will be interesting to see just how high we go. I reckon we will dip just under the £20M mark. I'll go for 1 x £18M 2 x £15M 1 x £12M 4 x £2 - 8M

Exactly, even most PL teams lose money annually, so investors won’t get a ROI that way. It’ll be solidifying in the PL, and flipping the club on to the next oil baron/hedge fund/Middle Eastern despot.

I agree we look for value and have done exceptionally well to date. Hirst and Davis are two incredible signings for what we paid. Player trading has been mentioned several times though and now we're in the PL we can still find "value" and that re-sale value again, it's just that the numbers are bigger. If we spent £25m on Omari for example, if he has a good season next season, then he's easily a £50-£60m player. Anthony Gordon went for £60m after half a good season at Everton.

Think we may spend quite big on a striker as they always cost more. When we get linked with players over 30 at over 20 million I don't see it as little resalable value.
‘Scary high fees’ on 21:16 - Jun 3 with 3434 views | LeoMuff | I think we will push the boat out a bit, we know how tough the championship is so I think we will do everything to try and stay in the prem.

‘Scary high fees’ on 21:20 - Jun 3 with 3414 views | Asa | Given that we are likely to be very ambitious and given the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford, Fulham, Palace, Burnley, Sheffield United etc have all signed players for £10m, £15m, £20m, £25m then it’s exactly what we are going to be spending. I’d say we’d have gone even higher if we only needed the odd tweak. The fact we might need 8-9 players means we may well not exceed that figure on any one player this summers. It’s the going rate now for staying up. Wolves and Forest, two similar sized clubs with time in League One in the last decade or so have spent £30m - £40m on a single player. That’s where we’d be headed if we stayed up. It’s crazy because we’ve been out of it for so long but very normal for this level.

I’d be very surprised if we spend £76 million in our first transfer window!

‘Scary high fees’ on 21:52 - Jun 3 with 3214 views | Big_Jase | Seen quite a few posts about players on 40-50k a week saying “we won’t pay that” the reality is, players at this level get paid that, squad players at big clubs such as Brandon Williams are on more than that. There’s gonna be some big fees and contracts handed out this year, it might feel uncomfortable but it’s just the level we are at now.

‘Scary high fees’ on 21:56 - Jun 3 with 3193 views | ElderGrizzly | Our biggest challenge will be wages I believe. Fees of that size will demand wages that will be in nosebleed territory for us and could cause issues with the ‘original’ squad if the multiples are too high. We are clearly going to spend and don’t envy Ashton and McKenna finding that right balance.

'it might feel uncomfortable for some' 22 years , Marcus Evans world etc etc. Quite a shock for some what is going on nowadays.

I’d rather us look in the championship, for smaller fees and lesser wages, because £40-£50k for a prem “ready” player, will probably only get you a bench warmer or a fringe player anyway. I’m still of the opinion that we won’t go mad splitting the team apart and bringing in big fee players on crazy money and ruining what we have built at the club.

Just 4 years ago, we signed 3 journeymen, for no money, and all on the same afternoon. That was an exciting window!
