Puns aside, kudos to a previous poster, OMARI would be good; dreamy vibes sort of name for a boat.

I saw a boat called Vitamin Sea, which I found rather amusing.

There was a little yacht laid up near Felaw Maltings several years back called 'Water of Yesterday' (but in French), which I always thought was a little too pessimistic for a sailor to go to sea in.

I think that’s to do with offending the gods. But ships have been renamed. A famous one is the warship Naseby. Built in 1655 she was named after the Civil War battle.

After the Restoration in 1660, she was renamed Royal Charles becoming The fleet flagship. In 1667, the Dutch burned the English fleet at anchor in the Medway. Royal Charles though was towed back to Holland and put on display. She couldn’t be put into Dutch navy service because its draught was too great. The coat of arms from the transom survives to this day in the Rijksmuseum.

Many French ships were captured during the Napoleonic wars. Most retained their original French names. Some were changed if they were considered offensive for any reason.

Ah fair enough - it must be the Norfolk in me worrying about such things.

I guess it’s the Norfolk in me (plenty of the ancestors seafarers) which makes me interested in such things.
