I'm surrounded by people who are saying they're going to support Farage. Not Reform. Farage. Friends, neighbours, work colleagues. Wouldn't be surprised in this.
As per the YouGov poll a couple of days ago, there was a note that they have changed their methodology. I wonder if the new analysis is favouring Reform - and whether or not it's more accurate than what other organisations are doing?
I have a feeling we a going to, as ever, follow in the footsteps of the USA. Labour will win and Farage could end up leader of the opposition (in whatever form that may be).
I'd love to see the Tory vote diluted down to something less meaningful, then in an ideal world a proper left party does the same to Labour.
Perhaps then we could get past the tribal associations and endless dross of the main two parties and actually have a government that worked for a change.
I won't hold my breath though.
No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Starmer will be Biden, Farage will be Trump.
If this Times poll is anywhere near accurate, the Tories wouldn't even be the official opposition!!! Bring it on!!

Right wing parties are gaining support throughout Europe. I can see Reform picking up a lot of votes. Probably not enough to win them many seats but a fair number of disaffected tory voters will get behind them I expect.

That's going to be the problem for Reform.
Conservative support is concentrated in certain areas, with big majorities in those constituencies. Reform is spread more evenly across the country, so it's harder for them to gain those nodes which can be turned into seats under FPTP.
It's why Farage has gone for Clacton, rather than somewhere more "glamourous" (e.g. where he could unseat a minister). That's one of the few places their support is large enough to stand a chance of getting across the line.
It’s been said many times over the last decade or so but there is no doubt Farage has been one of the most influential politicians in the uk if not the most.

If we had a PR system, Reform would certainly be well represented in the next Parliament based on the current polls. But we don't, so they won't!

Indeed.
But then I think we'd have a whole load of smaller, special interest parties who get together in coalitions to govern (same as they do in many places), rather than giant creaking behemoths left over from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Just to confirm I meant to say influential over the last decade not since Cromwell times.

If you dislike the idea of the Tories being the opposition you just wait until Reform takes that mantel. 😂😂
I mean, if you want an indictment of our stupid voting system, based on the poll numbers from the times. The Lib Dems with the 4th most votes would have the 2nd most seats and be the official opposition while UKIP v2 would be 4th on seats with the 2nd most votes.

I very much doubt it. The reason the conservatives are facing wipe out is because they cow towed to a minority of right wing extremists and are now facing the consequences.
I doubt you are old enough to remember the last general election - but Labour were unelectable because they cow towed to deranged left wing extremists and 44% of the electorate opted for economic stagnation and self harm. A landslide no less. Your dad might be able to tell you that the conservatives have churned though quite a few leaders and cabinets since those heady days - whilst Labour are now everybody’s cup of tea as Conservative Lite.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that IF the Conservative silence their nut jobs for 5 years and do an about face and reclaim the centre ground they will be on course for a huge majority in the next election.
There may well be a sizeable minority of racists, little UKer, etc in this country - but the one good thing about first past the posts is that they don’t get a voice in parliament (unless they get Conservative safe seats). Here in France 36% of a small European electorate turnout voted for Ulrich le Pen’s love child. They get 36% of the seats - but the majority can still ignore them if they want to.

Again, not much being made about the fact its Labour's worst poll for 2 years and that Reform are also taking votes from them.
Suspect they will go back above 40% in polls conducted after their manifesto launch
and already Labour are putting out ads attacking Reform and Farage.
They will lose votes to Reform too, just not as many as the Tories. That red wall they lost in 2019, may well look to Reform rather than returning to Labour.
What will keep Labour on track for a healthy majority is a decent swing from SNP in Scotland.

Of the UK, or the human race in general? Farage is the UK's 'representative' but so many countries seem to be swaying to the right now.
It's easy to point at politicians and complain how crap they are, across the spectrum.
But the electorate itself is at least partially responsible. Too many don't care, are distracted, think it doesn't matter, or too lazy to give those seeking their vote proper scrutiny.
It's a downhill spiral and a curse of modern developed democracies: crap politicians = disillusioned voters = less scrutiny = even worse politicians.
