Similar age will feel the same - Ipswich v Liverpool still has a real ring to it.
So many great games against them at Portman Road, like the 1-1 Emlyn Hughes screamer, Alan Brazil scoring a winner, but best one for me was the Whymark header from David Johnson no. 1’s cross.
Boom . . ‘Av it . .

Can anyone remember where we sat around the edge of the pitch? It must of been late 60s early 70s. Im pretty sure it was against Liverpool

Used to happen every game at WHU when I used to go (up to 74). Moved to Suffolk after that and can't remember it at PR except for the Leeds 38.010 game.
My first Liverpool game was around 75 when Mick Mills scored the winner, I think it was an FA cup game.
Revolting scousers nicked my cousins Rubettes hat.
“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.”
Boris Johnson canvassing in Henley, 2005.
Another old git, climbing out of the cellar covered in cobwebs, to comment. Being of challenged height I would always arrive early finding a spot one foot on raised concrete next to the blue railings to get a good view, only for some 5’5” giant to stand in front of me just before kick off! Great memories.

Mariner's header in 76 what a moment, the crowd had been willing the goal to come, fantastic! Does anyone remember the Liverpool fan who climbed the girders of the North Stand and ended up hanging from the front edge of the roof way above the crowd - was that the same game?

Yep another old git remembering going into churchman’s in the 70s with a crate to upturn and stand on up against the corrugated fencing to the side where the new big screen is now. Liverpool was always a big game normally towards the top of the league. In the ground at 1 when the gates open and one Liverpool game in particular gates were closed at 1.30.
Lots of different types of games seen at PR in the nearly 50 years since of course!
I'm certain the gates opened prior to 1pm in those days. I can certainly remember being at the ground by 12:00 numerous times and am pretty sure inside by 12:30 with friends to claim our normal barrier three quarters up Churchmans

I sat by the side of the pitch in front of the old East stand for the Man Utd match on19th Sept 1970. My first ever 1st team match (my 8th Birthday present) and a 4-0 win against a team including George Best, Bobby Charlton, Dennis Law and Nobby Stiles.

I wasn't at the 79 cup game. A season or two before my time. This was the game I meant though I know Dalglish scored similar to this
Almost identical goals! Think it might have been this game where Liverpool stayed at Belstead Brook hotel and Kenny gave my mate , who was a weekend porter in his last year at Chantry, a pair of multi studded boots. My mate wore them to play Sunday morning league in!

I've been frantically trying to find the header Whymark scored to beat Liverpool, from David Johnson's superb left foot cross, but just can't. I know I've seen it on video, perhaps it was in one of the "Big Match Revisited" or something like that.
Frustrating.

Another 70s Churchman's goer here, armed with the obligatory milk crate. We normally found one of the bars just to the right of the goal about half way up.
TWTD. As a kid, I probably had no idea how good we had it.
That’s pretty much exactly where we turfed up with a crate for me to stand on - I think I used a Corona one rather than milk. This would’ve been possibly 79, but more likely 80 onwards. I’m rubbish with details like what was my first game, what was the score, who scored, how were the goals scored etc... I just enjoyed going and watching good football.

I always wondered who that kid with the fancy Corona crate was. I'm in complete agreement with your 2nd paragraph. Don't remember who scored the goals, barely remember what score was etc. Just sorta remember the atmosphere and the never ending victories (well that's how it felt anyway)

Oh yes. It was the old day equivalent of having padded seats!
I had the privilege of meeting Emlyn Hughes at a race meeting in the 1990's, and told him I had never forgiven him for that goal against us in 1974! He was full of smiles, and obviously remembered the goal very well. What a lovely man he was.

Being behind that Churchmans goal when Dalglish curls one with the left foot.
I was in the West Stand, right behind him when he hit that. Just knew it was going in from the moment it left his boot. One of those moments that sticks with you. Beautiful goal though.
