Seen some people suggest it should be a ballot system for away tickets next season. What’s everyone’s thoughts?

I think that’s a bit unfair on the fans who have made the long trips to unfavourable destinations over the years.

They should do something for the people like me who paid £40.00 last season and didn't manage to get tickets for any games.
I think it would be fair if everyone with less than 10 points from last season went into a ballot.
That would mean the 2000-2500 with 10 points or more would still get first choice.

Presumably personal circumstances prevented you from attending any games last season.

I'm not convinced a ballot is fair, but is probably more moral and shuts up a fair few moaning. With the difficulty around home tickets, and the fall out that caused, upset more fans is a difficult reality.

The club will have to work hard to close down the touts, it was bad enough last season but next it'll be off the scale. While it's still easy to get points for every game and sell on the ticket a certain few will cock up any system in place.

The cost and manpower for that makes it unpalatable, as well as making decent fans suffer because of the actions of a few bells on Twitter. You can bet though the stuff that sometimes makes the locals will be national news instead.

We are in the big boys league now. If you don't like Caviar or Prawn sandwiches don't bother applying for away tickets.😂😂

What is your proposal then to solves the issue and for all those long standing fans that have not been able to get to as many away games in the last couple of years, but now we are in the Premier league now want tickets ?? The point system is surely the fairest way of doing it ?? If tickets ever get to general sale, then do a ballot.

Why bring politics into the discussion ?

What about those who 'did the hard yards' for decades but for one reason or another couldn't get to as many games in the last 12-18 months when the points system was introduced? Myself, I've now got 2 young boys and away games became much tougher in the last year or two. But for the 20 years prior to that, did at least 16-17 away games, year in, year out.

As others have said, holding 10-15% for a separate ballot each away game seems fair to me.

I’d say that’s me as well.

Except the last 18 months I’ve largely got round it by buying from other people.

Which sadly means I have no recorded games on my name despite doing 5 in each of the last two seasons and 12-15 annually in the 5 years before that

As you say what the hell has politics got to do with it.
Funny all these moaning now wanting to go to the big grounds. Points system works no need for change. I'm all for reform but not on our away ticket policy 🤣🤣

We're a club. This is the time to attract a new generation, some of who will stick with us when we are not doing well again. I started supporting Town in 1974 and was probably a glory hunter as we were brilliant for my first 10 years. But I have been to hundreds of games since which weren't glory hunting and never lived nearer to Ipswich than Wakefield because those years embedded the loyalty to the Club. It's the club that matters and if you create a closed shop to see them live, then what loyalty will there be when we are not doing well if people have only seen us as another team on Sky.
The points system is not rewarding support 'over years', it's over a selected couple of years when we were doing well. There is no evidence that the majority of that support is any less glory hunting than anyone who wants a ticket now.
Have a priority system, yes, but don't make it out that it is anything other than based on a couple of seasons and became a closed shop for 6 months of those two years.
But when the same people complain when there are only 16K of us in PR in a mid table championship game, as they did, maybe think back to this as a reason.
You need to have some tickets that are in theory available to all supporters irrespective of their previous attendance or you club suffers when times are not so good.
20 percent is reasonable.

Im thinking from a personal perspective, having not missed a game home or away in 3 years, that if it's a ballot for the full allocation, that would be unfair. The club can hold back the complimentary tickets for a ballot for local fans.

So you’ve only not missed a game since we started to improve!? What about those who put in the hard yards that you mentioned?

I didn't downvote the fact. I downvoted the implication that anyone can get to any game, there's no 'life' getting in the way, no concerns with travel times or costs. That's what she's implying - that that poster could've got to one of those games so tough titties.

We seem to have a lot of supporters who don't seem to think too deeply or see the wider picture. And a lot of selfish supporters who, because whatever system or process we're discussing works for them, couldn't give a monkeys about anyone else.

100% this.

I had a number of away games lined up last season for me and the boy, but due to date changes because of SKY, FA Cup etc, we weren't able to go.

Switching matches from a Saturday to a week night during school term time, and the fact that I value his education over football, means we couldn't do anywhere near as many as we had planned.

So you prioritised other things over going to watch ITFC, that was your call. It’ll be unpopular to say, but why should you potentially get a ticket over someone who has put ITFC at the top of their list of priorities in recent years?

I personally hope they keep it as is, rewards those that make huge sacrifices that will hit them in their family lives, and financially… yet they attend regardless.

If you miss out on any away tickets, expect as much kindness and sympathy as you showed those who have been forced to move seats.

I’m sure she missed out on a Cambridge ticket and caused absolute uproar (apologise if I’ve got the wrong person tho)

I had kids when I did, I miss away games, missed some home games. It was at a time when we were a bit sht.

But I made sacrifices, had untold arguements with the wife over going. But it is what it is.

The club can’t help every single issue.

And there was me thinking that people are allowed to vote up and down if they agree or disagree with a comment? That's what people do. My comment was just merely a factual statement that a number of games went to general sale - it may well be people couldn't attend that game for whatever reason, or did not want to go but likes of Wednesday, Preston and Rovrum did hit general sale, and that is all

I wonder if your attitude would be different if you'd had kids etc. in the last 18 months...

A 10%-15% ballot would give long-time fans at least a shot at getting to the odd away game, while ensuring everyone with 10 pts or more is guaranteed a ticket. I haven't seen anyone saying last season's fans should be forgotten. Far from it. But many are saying the long-time fans shouldn't be forgotten either, especially as those may get out of the habit of going in the coming years when the cycle of success ends and the club needs the long-term hardcore again.

It would have been my choice, and life happened. I really wouldn’t have been expecting the club to put things in place to help me out. I fully understand I am just another fan, a bum on a seat that will be replaced.

It’s unfortunate for you, and of course a bit of a kick in the teeth. It’s not for me to question, but if you’d have made an effort to get to some games you might not be in this situation. (But I appreciate fully how difficult it is, and I’ve lived it, and come out the other side)

The only thing I think the club have done wrong was to not reward fans with points prior to starting the SB membership. That seemed a little off to me.

That's not entirely fair, given that it suddenly became a lot harder to obtain away tickets in the Gamechanger/McKenna era.

I remember being able to turn up at places like Cardiff or Bristol and buy on the gate.

It's entirely fair. What would be unfair would be fans who have who have travelled week in week out for years not being able to get a ticket because Jonny cum latelys want to pick and choose a few big games they want to go for a day out.
