Seen some people suggest it should be a ballot system for away tickets next season. What’s everyone’s thoughts?

I think that’s a bit unfair on the fans who have made the long trips to unfavourable destinations over the years.

I believe support for the foundation is the key to away supporters getting tickets. The club knows it can sell 5k + tickets for each away game. Therefore a ballot with benefits to the foundation would work. Maybe 500 tickets made available to the ultra away supporters. Arsenal's and Chelsea's tickets will be high value. Each game should be available for download but in life we cannot get everything we want.

I think it should be weighted to fit exactly my circumstances. I can't see a fairer way than that.

I disagree. Save some for ballot fine, but in my opinion those who put the financial and time commitment in last season should have priority over those who didn't.

When it was season ticket moves you stated "I am one of those who paid to sit through dross, but that gives me no greater rights than anyone else and lots of people havent been able to set a ST and would bite off someone's right arm for one. Ultimately if people don't want to move they can hand their ticket back or accept there is no choice and enjoy PL football."

Does your approach not apply to away tickets. Hypocrisy at its finest. All is fine unless it affects you.

The are many fans who can only afford to go to a percentage of away games. There are also fans who attend the majority of games but like to take their children, or partners, to a few games.

They have to be taken into account and a ballot seems fairer. Football should be inclusive not exclusive.

There are also a set of supporters who aren't local to Portman Road. Having attended 18 away games last year I'd be a bit miffed to miss out on away games this season to allow local season ticket holders to join me in a ballot.

Especially given away capacities are largely higher this time.

Whilst I attended 13 home games I expect to miss out often this season, especially with the reduced tickets available.

Exactly.

Me, Me, Me! I made this great sacrifice of going to a boghole like Accrington so I should get a shot at seeing Man City...

No, you choose to support your team, you choose to travel, that's that. Whilst Jesus and whatever deity you bend over for may appreciate your efforts, it's been, it's gone, you wanted to do it, that was your reward. The points system seemingly works, it's a good loyalty scheme unless of course it doesn't suit you.

I have come to terms with the fact that I won't be able to attend much this season but just like the last few years, I will find a way to watch from afar. If I get tickets for any game, fantastic. If not, I am sure the players can play ok without me watching.

I mean I had zero shot at the home game tickets last season or the season before when I was down south but it's just what happens when you support a great side. We are now massive. Deal with it.

It's fine as it currently is. If fans aren't happy, it's because they didn't do the hard yards in L1/Championship, but now want a ticket for City away.

what are the hard yards?

I was at the Bristol rovers and Lincoln away games but I cant do much more than 2 or 3 a season.

But Id still love to do 2 or 3 this season. Shouldn't be a closed shop for those that can go away every game.

I have been to only a few away games over the last few seasons but would love to go to Man City away. I would prefer to sit in the away end but would sit in the home end if I have to. Any advice about how likely I am to get tickets and how to maximise chances (on DM if it is something dodgy) would be much appreciated. Sorry that I don't know much about this, in the past I just bought tickets on the ITFC website when they were released and rarely had a problem (except Norwich this year) but I feel like this season will be different.

They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. 'Bernard Black, he's mad,' they'd say, 'he's insane, he's dangerous.' Well I'll show them! I'll show them all!

I think there definitely should be a ballot element for away tickets. Not for all of them. Or maybe have 2/3rds of them in a ballot for season ticket holders, and 1/3rd in a ballot for others. Or something along those lines.

If you miss out on any away tickets, expect as much kindness and sympathy as you showed those who have been forced to move seats.

Some of us did the hard yards before Gamechanger came in, but none of that counts now apparently.

Yes a ballot for a certain amount would seem fair. And perhaps a slight bias to people who live local to that away team (which would be a nice gesture to people who don't live in Ipswich, plus would reduce our carbon footprint). Having lived in Crystal Palace for a few years, and living within walking distance of their ground, it'll be a bit annoying if I can't get a ticket now we're going to be playing them again. Selhurst Park is probably the away ground I've been to more than any other over the years, but in those days you could just rock up no problem.

It's not quite as black and white as just glory hunters wanting a ticket for City away.

If glory hunters are looking to attend Man City away I would suggest they have made a bad choice!
Perhaps Forest or Leicester would be more sensible.

Why should I sacrifice all the money I've spent and the points I've earned being a loyal supporter to a ballot where it just becomes a free for all. The Club (not me) devised the points system to reward Season Ticket Holders and Gold Card Members to give them priority. It's called putting your money where your mouth is.

There are lots of families and young kids at Ipswich these days which is great to see.

So I don't buy a generation are locked out just those who now want to go to Man City but were nowhere to be seen at Forest Green.

Its an entertainment business so supply and demand and the the supply is not there anymore to be able to pick and choose games. Is what it is and the same at all Premier clubs.

Your season ticket and gold card got you priority last season.

The ticket(s) you bought to an away game got you entrance to a match/matches last season.

They don’t entitle you to keep your position at the top of the queue forever, especially as it isn’t possible to get a season ticket at all these days.

The thing is, the current system DOESN'T reward those who've attended for the longest time. In theory, someone could've started watching away in 2022/23 and now have much more priority than someone (like me) who's been going away since 1999.

There is a way of rewarding both elements of the fan base.

Too late. No membership no points, those are the rules.

How far back do you suggest they go? 1962?

Its a difficult one this.

As mentioned in other posts, not everyone can afford to go to all away games, or get time off work/from family commitments etc and shouldnt be excluded because of that, however I myself have been to about 97% of Ipswich games in the last 3 seasons (both home and away), so if I was to miss out on tickets this season over someone who had barely been to any games then I would be majorly disappointed and angry.

The club need to find away to reward those who have travelled up and down the Country supporting Ipswich, whilst not excluding those who wanted to but couldnt.

I realise this is going to contradict my previous sentence, but for me - we should keep the points system as per last season. I realise im being selfish here but im not going to apologise as ive done the hard grafting.

If balloting is to be introduced then it should be for a trial period to see how effective it is, which I suspect will be met with frustrated fans anyway.

80% based on points
20% ballot

Although if it's 100% points I won't be complaining.

I think we're also likely to see ballots for home tickets as there may only be a couple of thousand and some of those could be restricted view.

Truly impaired.

Season tickets actually got you no priority last season.

And there is no such thing as a gold card anymore.

Why not? Obvious issues of fairness, together with the ability to extend the fanbase, and make attendance at Ipswich available to more people.

I don't think anyone is suggesting purely a ballot. Anyone that went to 50%+ of the away games last season will have no problems getting tickets to any game they want to. That can't be any more than 1500-2000 surely?

After that, is someone that went to say 7 away games more deserving than someone that went to 2 games? Strictly speaking, yes, but it is hardly super fan levels. You'll have loads of fans that sit somewhere between 1 and 10 games.

The club have to make it plausible for fans to be able to get away tickets or people aren't going to bother paying 40 quid for a membership.

Im thinking from a personal perspective, having not missed a game home or away in 3 years, that if it's a ballot for the full allocation, that would be unfair. The club can hold back the complimentary tickets for a ballot for local fans.
