FFS 23:05 - Jun 25 with 20589 views | PhilTWTD | Really, really getting fed up with this at the moment. It's clear we've got a couple of groups of posters who don't particularly like one another and threads are deliberately derailed and ultimately turned into rows. I've just removed a thread which was in no way offensive, which was mocked and belittled for no good reason other than a handful of posters don't like the poster who started the thread. The Forum can't really run like that, posters have to rub along together regardless of whether they get along. Perhaps there can be an end to the animosity and sniping or posters, some of whom are very long term posters, will no longer be welcome.

While not really wanting to add to this thread because that would make the whole thread completely counter-productive, I'm going to to clear my name. Since the 2010 World Cup I have watched all televised matches with the sound off. I think there have been two or three exceptions, the last being England's match with Slovenia. I have no opinion about male or female pundits/commentators and their relative merits other than that I find all commentary irritating because it's unnecessary - which is why I mute them. I heard Matterface for the first time the other day and didn't know know what all the fuss was about and I thought Lee Dixon was okay. I can't remember having listened to any female commentators so could not comment. Perhaps, I did contribute to the thread in the way BigAl says but I think it's highly unlikely.

Separate point, but I hate televised matches with the sound off (i.e. in some pubs). You lose the atmosphere, the excitement building as a flowing move/chance builds etc. And also, why do pubs so often seem to switch the sound off and put music on immediately the game finishes, so you can't hear any of the chat/interviews etc? No-one's there to listen to your crappy playlist... and in fact some of the footy fans might have another pint rather than stream out of the pub if you kept the sound on longer. Always baffled me, that one.

In a pub it's different for sure. My wife doesn't like football so having the volume off keeps the peace in the house. I haven't watched footy in a bar/pub since I watched the Euros in Spain in 2008. My life is actually fairly dull.

Bloots was referring to being down-arrowed a while back, when he announced that KM was remaining as manager, by screen shooting an announcement from Percy Pig or some such source. Nowt to do with views regarding female pundits, so no need to clear your name. Confusing innit?

….my point about the female pundit in question, was entirely positive in saying that she was better than the majority of the male pundits. Before the usual incorrect assumptions are made.

I may have downvoted Bloots, but can't say for sure. It seems odd that I would have downvoted him for saying that KMcM was staying as I was in no doubt at all that he would. I think down-voting breeds toxicity on this site and think it should be done away with. The last time I got downvoted I retaliated by downvoting about 5 of the poster's previous comments irrespective of the content. A couple of months ago, Ryorry downvoted me for some reason and I was feeling generous and UPvoted her previous 300 posts. It was good because then there was a period of mutual upvoting for about three weeks. [Post edited 26 Jun 2024 12:18]

FFS on 12:40 - Jun 26 with 1703 views | WW2TV | Hi, I have lurked on this forum for well over a decade and visit every day. I never post or reply, because of the often very hostile/sarcastic/bitchy/petty tone here. I get my Ipswich news from, and appreciate the information, but there are some very weird people who make this place a cess-pit at times. It is incredibly off-putting, and Phil I sympathise HUGELY with the task you face having to moderate this hornet's nest. For reference, I run a WW2 History channel on YouTube with 80,000 subscribers and have to deal with real life NAZIS, and I genuinely think my task is easier moderating that, than Phil's job here on TWTD. Again, I have to deal with holocaust deniers, actual f-ing Nazis and also pro-Putin nutters in Russia. For some reason, there is a nastiness among some users of TWTD and it's scary. Keep on doing what you do Phil, I, for one, appreciate your efforts

Thanks, It seems to me you have to deal with much more passive-aggessiveness than I do. Actual Nazis are easy to spot, but TWTD has lots of quite nasty bullying that masquerades as sarcasm and banter. There is a vindictiveness here among some people that as I said before, is scary. BTW, there are quite a few WWII historians and authors who are Ipswich fans. We have enough that we are thinking about hiring a box or hospitality suite for a game this season.
