Bit of a love in for Stokie on here which is fine as he seemed a nice enough poster. And he was undoubtedly intelligent with his posts.
That said, let’s not pretend he wasn’t very subtle in some of his comments if you were on the wrong side of him. For a while he prodded at me for a good few weeks about my view on something or other years ago - bringing it up repeatedly in very distinct yet subtle ways. We got in fine in recent years but I can see why he would cause reactions from some those who are not quite as mature or as brilliant as folk like me.
All that said - I do wish him well and hope all is ok. Am sure he will be back soon. Nobody really ever leaves this place. [Post edited 2 Jul 2024 14:44]

Think this is a balanced take - we're all guilty of it to a certain degree.
Sadly I don't think he managed to lose the need to win an argument (that was needed with anti-vaxxers) after COVID. The pursuit of Frimmers was way overboard and was getting tiresome.
At the same time, nice enough as you say and hope the break is good for him. |  |

And TWTD was seen as a way to stay sane (even more ironically) as we suffered the lockdowns. |  |

Hope SB is back soon and well.
Had a minor fallout about a decade ago when I ran an online manager league where he was unbelievably good to the point where it was quite suspicious and I got complaints from other players. Consulted the people who ran the whole game who didn't think what he (and Cotty) were doing was realistically above board and ended up banning him on the basis of this.
Some time later, with some backtracking from those running the game, when it was far too late, they admitted it was actually possible to work out the game if you were clever enough.
Of course, having got to know SB and Cotty through their posts it turns out they were both very nice and very bloody clever individuals who I am now 100% certain did nothing wrong. Has always annoyed me since that the guidance I got initially was to boot them out rather than the game admitting it wasn't anywhere near as sophisticated as it made out when up against mathematical titans or those willing to do a good deal of research and experimentation. I think their intelligence has always come across clearly in their posts here.
You live and learn. Have always enjoyed their posts since and both struck me as very decent people.

Sorry to hear it. Didn't always agree with SB and thought he could come across a little highly strung on occasions, but we all have our moments.
During covid he was a great source of trustworthy news and information based on the scientific consensus at the time, and his posts helped me navigate that period while the rest of the internet was awash with disinformation and tribalism over lockdowns and vaccines. Doubt he'll see this, but on the off chance: thank you, SB.

It's why I rarely post. As the poster above commented the paid users (aka the mob) are allowed to get away with bullying etc on a daily basis. But someone deletes their posts after the mob start trawling back through their history and they get banned. |
