Villa next week.

If true, must be absolutely infuriating for MA & co. - what a waste of time.

I suppose they always have to be prepared they'll have one like that though.

Let's crack on with Whittaker then!

Whittaker and Philogene are in different leagues talent wise. I like Whittaker but gutted we aren't getting Philogene. A genuine difference maker. Let's see what Ashton can magic up. I would like to see us buy Sarmiento but that would be in addition to a statement signing like Philogene.

Fcuk him. Don’t want him anyway with that bellend agent.

Makes no sense from a player point of view to end up back in the championship.

We are better off without if that is his level of ambition.

This is the financial power of clubs who can afford to buy someone who'll never start just to stop him playing for another club.

At least he isn't joining Everton as that really would have grated more but then there wasn't an offer on the table from them that was accepted.

For me, the next move has to be Jack Clarke. Another slippery customer who can play on the left and either cut in or go to the byline.

I believe they slapped an £18m price tag on him earlier in the summer, but I wonder if there's a deal to be done around the £15m mark.

I rate Clarke but Whittaker was one of the best players I saw at PR last season. Got size, skill and knows where the goal is. Add a bit of McKenna coaching and there’s a heck of a player there.

Philogene? Thought he was excellent and would like to have seen him at the club. But if he wants to go to Villa, fine. Move on. Glad to see the end of the sorry saga.

I also suspect that his clown of an agent just follows the money. I hope JP isnt too led by his agent and doesn't regret the decision later on.

Whereas it seems Hutchinson and his agent are more strategic in their approach to his career. Which will likely pay dividends further down the line.

He clearly said he wanted to play in the Premier League. Villa also have Champions League football to offer. It's not a case of lack of ambition, possibly the opposite in reality. No shame in us losing out to Villa and no surprise he's opting for them when given the chance.

If there's ever proof of chasing the money it's this one.

Forget ipswich in this. He said he wanted to play and that's what was important.

Championsleague title chasing villa aren't going to be playing him much.

I'm going to be very interested to see how much game time he gets tbh

Well, not that interested haha. Time to move on to other targets and get Greaves/Delap over the line as well.

I'm worried about Greaves until I see him holding that scarf as we've got him for a bargain considering Websters fee 5 years ago.

Not really, it's about the opportunity of playing in the Champions League and top six in the Premier. Maybe he feels he can really be a part of that. He said he wanted to play in the Premier, not that he just wanted to play.

Shame for us he chose Villa over Town but it doesn't strike me of simply chasing the money.

Sod him... We only want players who want to play for us... If he'd rather go to villa to warm their bench, then good luck to him...

His agent is a complete Bellend too.... Having rocked up and taken selfies outside the Barca and Everton training grounds.. off you trot..

Grr I'd read Villa weren't really that interested.

Clarke is the only other that jumps to mind from the class of 2024, so maybe we will broaden our horizons now. There was a Power Rangers of the Championship feel to recent business for better or worse.

I don't see Chair as the athlete we want and Whittaker is a great marksman more than a great winger. Smodzics' all-round game isn't what we're after. Jones prefers the right side and isn't going to keep us up anyway. Rowe can't pass for toffee and his dribbling isn't in the same tier as who we've missed out on. Can't think of anyone else worth a mention.

Well let’s see I’m still not totally convinced it’s finished but whereas Everton couldn’t match us in terms of the coach with ‘dead end dyche’ you have to say villa can offer coaching in spades. Maybe he thinks he’s got a point to prove there given what happened but equally you’d think he might want to prove a point elsewhere, who knows?

"Opportunity"? When Villa are 1-3 down in the 80th minute? I have a feeling they haven't been straight with him, and that his joke of a greedy, self-serving, wind-up-merchant of an agent has taken advantage of & been badly advising him, but time will tell of course.

He’ll be on mad money there, unlikely we can compete with that, plus the bonus of CL football.

Don’t mind missing out, whilst I think he is a good player, £15m was daft.

Callum O’Hare on a free transfer still looks really good, O’Hare has been doing what Philogene did last season for a couple of seasons now.

He might get a last minute Champions League appearance or two before they are knocked out early on.

😂
Might be wrong but I think a large part of it was AV not wanting him playing for a rival team in the Prem - all very dog in the manger & Chelsea hoarder-like.
