well lets say you are in a club ands there's is really hot girl you fancy but she fancies your best mate. Your best mate is a bit of a pillock, misses all signals and turns her down. So she when comes over to you do you turn her away?

... but you have to keep questioning why we keep making offers if he's supposedly made it clear that he only wants to join Sporting? Otherwise it's just a waste of everyone's time.

Don't think its a case of keep making offers, think we made a final offer some weeks ago which remains on the table

Same principle still applies then really? Why would we make that offer if he was hellbent on Sporting? Otherwise we'd a) not make the offer in the first place or b) withdraw the offer if he made it clear to everyone that Sporting is the only club he wants to go too.

I get your point, but I get the impression PAOK have been sitting on our bid for a while, rather than multiple bids from us recently.

Loads of players end up at places that aren't their first choice, but as long as a good pro it doesn't really matter - the problem comes when you waste energy on players who aren't going to be able to got over the line and you'd assume we aren't (continuing) to do that and either the offer has just been left on the table and nothing is happening or we have signs that we might be able to get it done

Surely we want the best players we can possibly get? If he signed here, he's not going to then sulk because he isn't playing for Sporting.

Yeah true, but as above, why would we leave that offer with them if we knew he didn't want to come here? I get that he may want to go to Sporting, and it seemingly is his first choice. But we obviously feel we've got a chance if that doesn't materialise for him.

Morsy didn't want to be here when he arrived and that turned out okay.

No it’s the website that reported a report from a Turkish news site about Davis. This one is a report from a report from a Portuguese newspaper.

Absolutely and a perfect example. People are so unbelievably precious and take it as a personal insult we are not every players first choice. His first choice being Sporting does not equal he has no interest in us. We might be his 2nd choice and he will still be happy to join. How many people change jobs and don't get their first choice but go on to get another good job and good career.absolutely no difference. It's his career and I hope we get him.

Indeed, don't think we've shown interest for a while, think our previous bid is being used to push Sporting's offer up.

“Precious” by asking a question? Given it’s been quite widely reported that Ioannidis would favour moves to Sporting Lisbon, or Bologna over us, I thought it was a valid question. As people have added, there must be some indication that he would come here, but seems a risky approach to me, anyway. [Post edited 7 Aug 2024 15:22]
