The only place I see “ schemer “ used for a central midfielder is this website. Been involved in football at lots of different levels and never heard it either. Is this a newish term like “ low block “ or just something I’ve paid no attention to?

Colin Viljoen was our schemer, reckon Super Jim could have been one? Come back, get the ball, like Morsy, but look to create openings ahead. Johnny Giles was the schemer in the great Leeds side of the early 70’s.

Viljoen was exactly the one who came to my mind when I tried to think of other 'schemers' we've had. I'd put Brian Talbot into that category as well.

Yeah not sure the word scheme for a 2 assist midfielder fits- Bullard, or Peralto maybe good fits but not for a 2 assist workman like or carrying midfielder. Sounds very much like morsey from description in what he does
