Is there a reason to drop Luongo yet? You'd think Phillips will be eased in to build his confidence in the wake of West Ham last season and dropping Luongo for Cajuste when Cajuste started in midweek would be surprising - i guess it depends who trains the best this week.

I thought Johnson and Ogbene played well, Clarke were lively but for crying out loud get past the player down the outside, cut in every single time. Other than that the rest were not worthy of being in the first XI as things stand. |
That's a very odd take. O'Shea was awful, based on what? He wasn't to blame for either goal and generally looked comfortable on the ball and rapid.
Johnson on the other hand consistently gave the ball away and created very little going forward apart from one left footed cross late on which was well defended for a corner. |  | | |

Glad I didn't get up at 3am to watch the Wimbledon game - so I don't base this comment on any insight from last night - but seeing Hutchinson - Szmodics - Clarke along the attacking line made something quite pleasant stir in the old groin area.

I thought Cajuste looked a cut above everyone on the pitch yesterday. Could well be him and Phillips at some point in the season.
Changing too many partnerships right now could be a bad idea - the big fear is that losing becomes a habit. Not that it's insurmountable, but not a problem we want to deal with.

Agree, Saturday is going to be a very difficult game as some will assume we 'deserve' to beat Fulham.
They are a very good and cohesive team and that will challenge us with so many new players being integrated into our XI.
To the OP, O'Shea will no doubt start with Greaves. You don't pay £10m+ for a CD and then ask him to bide his time. He's an upgrade on LW and should be treated that way. The more Greaves and O'Shea play together the better and I'm sure training this week will have those two together. |  | | |

I watched the Fulham v Man Utd game with my nephew (Man Utd fan), & we agreed that the best/most dangerous player on the pitch was Adama Traore. He tore into the United defence down the right hand side. I noted also that he was motm in their second game against Leicester.
For that reason, and the fact that Leif has already had to face 2 world class atrackers in the Liverpool & City games, I think we might start with Szmodics on the left side of the 3, as he gets back well to help out the defence & works his socks off all over. Clarke to then come on when everyone is getting tired.

I thought he looked good on the ball as well as being quick and aggressive. Not sure why Burgess getting pelters for the goals either. First one looked a foul as a blatant push and the second wasn't his man - it was a perfect ball and header.

I agree that Clarke was more impressive.
I think that longer term our first choice will be Delap (or new striker) ahead of Hutchinson, Szmodics and Clarke (are they fairly interchangeable within that 3 too?) with Phillips and Morsy behind them.
It will be intesreting to see whether Clarke and Phillips start this week. It might well be after the international break that we see them start. | |
