….is to win.

Personally I think we need to win tomorrow. We can’t keep saying “a point will be OK”.

When does that attitude change? Not against Villa or WH I assume.

Points will be absolultely invaluable for us this season.

If we head to Villa, Liverpool, Arsenal, United and try and win by playing an expansive 'we'll score more than you' type football like the last two years, we'll be taken apart.

We're clearly setting up to take points away from home, if we can get 9-11 away points this season, that would be a great achievement, might sneak in an away win here and there if we're lucky.

Ultimately, we need to try and win around 10 home games too.

For context....

Last season, Forest W9 D9 and just about survived.
Sheffield only won 3 games all season.
The season Leicester went down, they W9 D7, Leeds joining them with only 7 wins, Southampton 6 wins.

We're deluded if we think points are going to be easy to come by at home, let alone away.

I think McKenna is being very cautious, calculated and absolutely eye on the goal.

I know KM hasn’t deemed it a 6 pointer, but there’s no way they’ve not identified this game as one where we have a real chance of taking all 3 points.

A point isn’t to be sniffed at of course, but we’ve got to get the first win on the board sooner rather then later

The real yard stick for how far each side has come since we beat them at PR is going to be how Downes plays. Will he dominate like he did at PR or will he be more Andre Dozzell and largely anonymous?

Who is saying a point is enough? Fans might say it but I’ve not heard McKenna etc claim it.

Brighton was the first game where I felt like we may have played for a point but the other matches looked like we were going for all three.

Apart from the games against the obvious big boys, McKenna will be trying to have a game plan to win 3 points. It's what he has done ever since he came here, and that won't change this season. That 'attack the league' sound bite last season may have sounded a bit cheesy, but that's exactly what we did.

Now, that doesn't mean we'll be successful as often thus season, much less that we should have an expectation or entitlement in games like tomorrow, but it's definitely one we'll be going all out to win.

I remember people used to use this when we had Mick in charge to justify dull away draws against rubbish teams.....!

However, I take your point in that its is a must not lose game and we have to get wins at home to survive I feel.

This must be a game we think we can win away though.

I think those numbers support the view that we need to get a win sooner or later though? 9 wins averages at just over a win every 4 games. Tomorrow will be our 5th without any on the board and is followed by a Champs Lge side at home and West Ham away

You can definitely make a case that a point in any of those is a decent result in isolation but at some point we will need to be picking up all 3. Tomrorow looks the best chance of doing so, on paper at least

I also think saying Forest only just survived is a bit misleading - they were 6 points clear and that was after a points deduction!

I think it’s too early for any game to be a ‘must’ anything game really. The big thing at the moment is about confidence and the sooner we get that first win the better. But another draw away, hopefully backing up another decent performance, will still be an OK result. That said, of all the away games we’re going to play this season this surely has to be one we should have down as a possible win. None will be easy or even likely, but is we’re going to win any away then this is one of the more likely ones.

Yup, on paper it's probably in our top 5 'easiest' games of the season (obviously not saying it will be easy by any stretch, but if you ranked all of the fixtures in order then we've got to look at Leicester and Saints home and away as some of our best opportunities, and they will both be thinking likewise of us) and so if you're after 10 or so wins you've got to look at tomorrow as one we've earmarked.

Football obviously isn't as simple as that but I think it is a tremendous gulf between the teams coming up and those already here, so these games v promoted sides are massive.

10 wins would almost certainly keep us up.

Only 1 club has won 10 and still gone down in the past 15 seasons or so and that was Cardiff about 10 years ago who won 10, drew 4 and went down in 17th. The 2 clubs above them that season only won 9 and stayed up by virtue of more draws.

I make 10 W's about the target, it might not be that high in reality but has to be the aim I would say. As others have said, Southampton away is a big opportunity but they'll be thinking the same of Ipswich at home. I'd be relatively satisfied with a point, but I wouldn't take it if you offered it to me now.

Yes, it's quite easy to play fairly well in this division and not win for several games in a row. We really need that win soon, probably should have got it against Fulham but didn't create enough good chances.

I was thinking though that in 00-01 we had four points after five games, but what came after was incredible.

It's a must win game if we want to survive, not only the 3 points, but to dent a rival at the same time.

I see lots of people confidently saying in pre season that we will be ok and survive, to then say a point is a great result, these games are must win IMO.

I'd like to find the person who first coined that phrase and give them a slap.

If we draw tomorrow and then beat Villa at home I doubt anyone will be saying Soton away was must win.

Well there’s far more pressure on Soton than us. It pretty much is a must win for them. A point for us wouldn’t be the end of the world but I have a feeling that we might sneak it. I’m looking for a ticket - I only live a few miles away!

What does 'must win' even mean? If I'm reading this literally you're implying we won't stay up if we don't win tomorrow, presumably that's what 'must' means in this instance?

Clearly its a big game for both sides and would be massive if we win, but to suggest we must win it to achieve our objective seems absurd at this stage of the season.
