Whenever I see Everton they look like a premier league version of the teams we used to struggle against in league 1.
All big forearms, super aggressive press, direct football, dangerous from set pieces, Tarkowski being a bit of a thug etc etc.
A game where we'll very much need to stand up to the fight before we get the chance to play our football.
A game we could clearly do with a win from, but it's going to be a tough one, make no mistake. |  |

It’s going to be tough, agreed. But I don’t share your pessimism at all. Going forward we are pacy and that could well be an important feature. Ashley Young, Micheal Keane and Seamus Coleman (is he fit?) aren’t that quick. Pickford is a commanding keeper but I do think that his better days are firmly behind him. I do hope that Braithwaite is still injured as he will become a great defender - but not for Everton.
The main difference between those L1 teams which we struggled against is that KM has become a much better coach with more experience. Sean Dyche seems to have remained static and quite predictable.
I’m going for a tough 2-0 win. Our defence needs to be strong as DCL is a very good striker but made of glass. McNeil (their other forward?) runs around a lot. |  | | |

Can't make the game today as we're in Leeds visiting Junior. I've watched us get heaps of good results up here. These 2 things mean there's nothing to worry about as long as we change one of these things from the BBC match preview...

I'm a bit concerned that there's a certain amount of assumption throughout the fanbase that Everton will be a relative pushover as they're struggling down the bottom and have looked ropey at this level for a few years now.
If that manifests itself throughout the crowd then it will turn things nervy and uncomfortable when Everton have spells on top (which they will) which is completely unhelpful.
As you say their style is one we've struggled against previously and I do slightly fear a typical 'away performance' from them where they completely stifle our ability to play and use their physicality to overpower us.
Hopefully I'm over-worrying and it will be an entertaining ding dong as both teams have shown to have a bit of a soft underbelly and we'll come out on top. |  |

Going to be an extremely tough game, 5/11 starters were with us in League One, it’s a massive step up to the Prem against an experienced Prem side.
We’ll be ok though, get behind the boys, make it difficult for Everton and get at them. (I know it sounds obvious, but we’re so much better when we’re on the front foot taking the game to teams).

Interestingly we remain favourites with the bookies
Listening to Everton main podcasts last night they feel that their superior Premiership experience and the quality of some of their team will be too much for us, and they are expecting a win.
BUT if we get the early or first goal and the atmosphere builds (WHICH IT HAS TO) then they may wobble.
Dyche is universally unrated by Everton fans. And he is basically seen as being sacked sooner rather than later with the new takeover. A loss and they feel that will do for him.
They seem to put a lot of weight in Brainthwaite starting. But feel even the ageing back line will be too good for us.
They seem to think recent performances are a proof point for doing well in Suffolk.
But I don’t think they watched our Villa performances and comparing us to Burnley last season is very floored.

I'm wary that the general feeling they're rubbish and have been clinging on for years is overblown: 13 wins and 9 draws last season, which would have seen them 12th without sanctions. Yet they have got weaker over the summer and look every bit a competitive, bottom third team so far, Wycombe-on-steroids vibe. We struggled against a few of those teams in L1 but not so much in the Championship, where our biggest challenge was teams with better calibre players, put simply lol, and in that respect Everton are much closer to our level than most of the other teams we've faced. 'Confident' too strong but I'm optimistic. | | | |

I know it goes against everything we've seen the last two years. But I'm really caught between wanting us to keep going or if we need to throw away the what worked before set up.
If we don't get wins we can't keep huff puffing our way to non wins.. so either we get our gelling sorted and we master the KM way in the prem. Or he learns quickly another way of getting wins in the prem and then revert back once he's got the players he needs to do it. |  |

Weather will be fine - pitch nice and greased from the rain but sun from now onwards - Everton will be tough but their weakness will be same as ours - getting past the wing backs for a pull back and goal or who can be the least ropy keeper out of Muric or Pickford / Pickford has had the yips for last few games [Post edited 19 Oct 2024 11:59]

We haven't struggled against the physicality under McKenna and have become a physical side ourselves built around Morsy especially.
However, Everton are clearly much better than their current position. They are unbeaten in their last 4. It won't be an easy match at all. |  |
