Not sure what I make of this.

If, as the article perhaps suggests, the verdict hinged upon the testimony of Blake's fellow firearms officers, I feel a distinct sense of 'they would say that, wouldn't they'.

Is there any other scenario where, essentially, the corroborating testimony of one's chums would be enough to secure a not guilty verdict?

I bet he's experienced a tiny fraction of it in recent years, at best.

There is so much to enjoy in London. From there Borough Market to the Mecerto Food Hall in Mayfair. Lovely walks through Kensington Gardens and around the Serpentine in Hyde Park. Camden. Covent Garden. Chinatown. A walk along the Thames from the Tower to Westminster. Great nightlife. So much to do and see.

the great thing about re-runs of series like the sweeney is that you get to see again london in the 1970s. it really was a grim, grimy place still pock marked by bomb sites and industrial decline. 'beautiful' it was not.

It was a happy place in the 60s though (I was there).

Funnily enough, I'm older and can! Of course you didn't "know" it at the time, but it's kind of symbolised in my head by one specific item of clothing* I had, loved and wore till it literally had holes in it (oh why didn't I buy two?!).

*A shirt in that Indian crinkly cotton, vertical stripes of red, purple, orange, blue that partly blended into each other - you'd have thought the colours would clash, but somehow they didn't - just looked glorious & hot.

Edit: I was working as a temp. sec. including in Soho for part of the time, shared an office with a lass whose ambition was to become a film editor, we spent most days roaring with laughter at something or other, but I do remember that at the time there were "very real concerns" about crime in Soho, though they didn't affect us. Also remember everyone reacting with amused tolerance to the orange-robed folk chanting their way down Oxford St. in line, singing "Hare Krishna' & shaking their bells!

You clearly weren’t travelling in, out and around London on Sunday then. Anyway, this and Mr Khan (who always strikes me as a man who enjoys the smell of his own f@rts) is for another thread. My fault for raising it - apols.

I was, I live in London.

There's plenty of valid criticism to Khan. Transparency on ULEZ monies isn't one

The thing is I haven't mentioned Kaba once. I'm merely suggesting that being in a car that's previously used in a crime and then panicking when surrounded by armed police is not enough to end a life.
I instead would rather see that person arrested and face trial by jury.
I don't think it's that controversial really

And you'd be fine with him mowing or shooting you down in the crossfire as an innocent bystander... As long as he gets his day in court! Jesus wept. He was acting erratically and very dangerously when asked to stop by law enforcement. Really digging yourself in here.

'Digging yerself in here' Yer, if by suggesting that I would rather see unarmed people arrested then shot dead then I am indeed digging myself in.
Are you on the other hand suggesting that anyone 'acting erratically and very dangerously when asked to stop by law enforcement' should be shot an killed?

Apart from weekends I'm only usually on here when it's quiet during work hours.

Of course in theory an unarmed person should not be killed. But I’d rather see an unarmed person shot dead if there is a threat they might be armed, ignore instructions and potentially put an Officer at risk.

In other words, if somebody is a perceived threat, do not do as ordered and pay with their lives that’s the sad choice they made. It’s a consequence of their actions, not the police.

What is the alternative? Just move aside for anyone displaying threatening, violent potentially criminal behaviour and hope all will be ok with him in the morning?

Again, you're removing all context. If it was just an unarmed person shot dead rather than being arrested then everyone would agree that's not ideal. But that's a straw man. The context was they didn't know he was unarmed, but he was in a car that had previously been used in a shooting the day before, so they had every right to believe he was armed. And he was ramming the police. And the officer wasn't literally trying to kill him (although in those circumstances it would be understandable).

You can't just remove all that context and declare it's wrong!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
