Ref big pillock

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

From that distance, it looks an even worse decision. How does the ref think the ball suddenly moved at right angles to the player running with it? This is one of those where a ref with integrity would watch it back and offer an apology and retract it if he is able.

If you freeze it you can actually see the striker still bolt upright when the ball has moved sideways, which would not be the case if he had been clipped first.

On the second angle you can also see the player put his feet together and dive, after the ball has gone as well.

Really really poor refereeing with potentially massive ramifications. Points in that game, no rb for the next game either.

Commentators seemed to be baying for the sending off as well.

Having seen it back several times, it is an absolute whopper of a crap decision.

Because the guys on the VAR thingy had just popped the kettle on, so were AFK at the time of the incident making a nice cuppa.

Clear and obvious mistake.

VAR should be allowed one look from three angles in real time. If they can't over rule the onfield decision in that time then we move on. Basically VAR makes a many mistakes as officials on the field. Time to bin it.

I think people fail to be objective about their own team, and I think there is far too much criticism of professionals who are just trying to do their job.

Having said that, this was a p*ss poor decision. In my humble opinion.

Cracking tackle, tbf I don’t even think the Brentford lad is making that much of it

Thought he'd got the ball at the time, but the dive was obvious. Think it's an anomaly that VAR doesn't look at second yellow cards.

We were one of the 19 clubs that voted to keep it. Only Wolves wanted it gone.

It's not just that, is it Phil? It's the fact that it was by no means a "clear and obvious error" from the ref re. penalty or no penalty. If the ref's interpretation live was that the foul was outside the box and the VAR team spent over 3 mins deliberating, I thought that's exactly the kind of thing that were meant to be stamping out this season?!

Agree. I think the initial foul was outside the area, as the referee did at the time, and HC presumably intended.

I’m guessing because the referee made the decision?

And the referees watching again and again on video replays on VAR thought it was dangerous play too

Very similar to this. We’ve got a tackling problem in the game.

How the hell is this a foul? Assume the booking is for dissent? Awful decision.

Maybe my eyes but I genuinely can't tell who connects with the ball from that footage, outside of Potter's foot or inside of Clarke's. Very disappointing we didn't receive the benefit of the doubt for something so tough to see (with my eyes anyway!).

Unless the striker is flicking it sideways, it is clear who got it first. And that he doesnt throw himself over until afterwards

In the same vein as Leif’s yellow for taking 10 seconds to take a thrown in yet Brentford’s long throw set up, several times, took ages including a ‘fake look at a short thrown’ sequence.

Like yourself, winding it back and forward frame by frame, Potter may have touched the ball first but Clarke had the dominant touch literally milliseconds after. Rubbish call 2 players going for a ball! Hope we can appeal it as if we don't have enough squad problems without suspensions!

Cant appeal a yellow. Only the ref can do it voluntarily I believe.

Can't appeal a yellow, I don't think. Even if we could, it's highly unlikely to be overturned.

In which case Clarke will score a dubious own goal, get booked and then sent off playing for Everton in the same match against Brentford next year.
