Unfortunately it’s the way the game is now, I wish we didn’t resort to gamesmanship but it’s endemic even in the PL. A lot of our games have been fine margins so it could get us over the line (as it did against Spurs).
We really got more streetwise in L1 - the home of the dark arts! I think it’s just more evident now since we aren’t dominating games as we largely did for the last 2 seasons. | | | |

I wouldn’t call it time wasting, we weren’t taking ages to take goal kicks, throw ins etc and the ref added 8 minutes on. It was killing their momentum and slowing the game down. They were guilty of cheap fouls on Hutchinson several times too. Played right into our hands. | | | |

We did have some tactical injuries, but I don't think we were particularly slow in taking things like goal kicks and throw ins, despite discontent from the Tottenham crowd.
As it is, tactical injuries don't really waste time because the time is added on at the end. [Post edited 11 Nov 2024 8:19]

It was as good as you'll see any team do at PR this season. Lots of falling down, lots of throwing ourselves to the ground when we got a gentle touch from a Spurs player. Muric taking closer to 6 minutes than 6 seconds every time he had the ball.
My fav was right at the end, Spurs player hardly touches Clarke and he does a full swan dive that takes him about 3 feet from the ball. Eric Gates would be proud of that dive. |  | | |

I don't like that behaviour, but I dislike being naïve and losing way more. I think they should be booked for it, but there is a 1 in 10 chance that they are actually injured or recovering from a heavy challenge. | | | |

Interesting how McKenna highlighted how supremely well-drilled Spurs' ballboys/girls are, so (when they need to) they can really up the tempo. If you'll pardon another Colchester allusion, it's so frustrating that when they are losing at home (not uncommmon) the ballboys are either nonchalant or plain dopey. (It has improved a bit of late.)
It's also much more obvious the higher up you sit, and someone who is actually at the game can see it much better than someone who only watched the game on tv, which is maybe what Deeney did. [Post edited 11 Nov 2024 13:13]

The thing is, if the powers that be insist on coming up with ways to make it easier for the big boys, the rich to get richer etc., then us smaller clubs have to find other ways to upset the applecart.
We can't even compete financially with the clubs we came up with, let alone the likes of Spurs in their £1bn stadium. | |
