What your favourite way to eat potatoes on 17:03 - Dec 11 by OldFart71
I recently visited Prince Edward Island and went to Anne of Green Gables. One of our stops was at a shop. On returning to our coach the guide gave us all a bag of crisps which were from the potatoes grown on P.E.I. they were lovely. If anyone remembers Golden Wonder crisps they were as good as them. As a kid I remember my mum buying Smiths crisps with the little blue bags of salt in the packet. We had a situation where in one particular bag a few of the crisps were black. A family friend sent them to Smiths with a letter. A week or so later we received a tin of crisps back. Can't see that happening today.
Smiths crisps were a bit Championship compared to the Premier League of Golden Wonder. They were the crisp of choice.
I always thought the little blue bag thing a bit of a waste of time. You either got a bit of cardboard or a load of salt, however much you shook the bag.
A tin of crisps - that sounds good!

Never grown them Dubbers but at £14 for a large sack at the nearby farm shop that supplies heaps of chip shops I promise you they are the way to go. I'll bring you some before a game if you like and we can do a dodgy deal at The Greyhound.
I've now got an image of Dubs having to lug a large of spuds to PR, to his seat and home again.

You put beer in mashed potato??? Wow.
Personally, I find it little underwhelming. Lots of butter, black pepper, bit of gravy helps if you are mushing through it with say sausages.
Memories of terrible mash as a kid doesn’t help. But the truly ghastly version of powdered mash was responsible for one of the best adverts ever
Recently I've been using red potatoes (also good for wedges) cutting them into small diced pieces (not even bothering to peel potatoes first), then adding a couple of peeled cloves of garlic into the pan whilst boiling. Then when soft, drain and add butter, black pepper, salt and a small splash of milk before mashing. It is rather nice.
However, my favourite way of eating potatoes is: Roast potatoes, cooked in either beef dripping or olive oil, with a bit of rosemary, salt and pepper, making sure well covered so that they come out really nice crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Honorary mention for jacket potatoes, brushed with oil, seasoned with salt & pepper, and a dash of paprika.

Yes to baby new tatees.
New potatoes boiled and served with butter, lemon juice and chives. Very nice too. Served with cold beef or chicken, a little salad (good for colour if a little suspicious - you can always leave the green stuff) and a dollop of good quality coleslaw - not the cheap vinegary rubbish.

Make mash as normal, mix in a ton of grated cheddar and put in an ovenproof dish, put loads more grated cheddar on top and put in a hot oven till it starts to go brown on top.
Mixing spring onions or chives or leeks in as well is good too

A possible upgrade might be the addition of a packet of plain crisps. Now hear me out:
We grew a lot of courgettes and tomatoes in the summer. Mrs C batch cooked the surplus sliced with various veg, seasonings etc divided up in trays of portions for two for the freezer. The idea is an instant veg dish to go with just about anything. On Monday it was sausages so one was defrosted and a generous amount of strong cheddar was added as usual.
This time though, on top she crushed up a small packet of plain ready salted crisps, mixed and added them to an extra top layer of cheese for the final oven browning. The crispy bits not only held the cheese on the top into a luscious little blanket but added crunch and colour. It worked, tasted good and will be tried again!

1: Bubble and Squeak - always make too much mash and green veggies for sunday roast, smash them all together the next morning, fry in hot oil to get crispy edges and serve with a fried egg - genuinely would be my death row meal.
2: Jacket potato with beans - jacket has to be super crispy, stupid amount of salted butter, heinz beans, mature grated cheddar and a fair amount of black pepper
3: Fish shop chips - honestly only one of three things I miss from the UK. Aussie battered fish is better than UK battered fish, but always served with deep fried frozen chips - what a waste.
