I suppose the thinking there was they probably won’t want or need him in a year? Imagine Haaland will stay a while now Pep is.

Sounds highly unlikely. Why would anyone do a deal for £20m, with all the risk on us and none of the potential benefit? Does well, he goes back and we make no profit. Does badly, we are landed with a £20m bill. Would have been a loan if that was city's position.

I don't think it would be £20 mill in the prem. But I did wonder if that figure was a buyback figure IF we got relegated?

Yep not a chance and I think the article is missing punctuation as it’s trying to say that the initial was worth around £20m as opposed to the size of the buy back.

I’ll blame that on my current eye infection and barely being able to see out of 1 eye 😂.

Yeah zero chance. Just desperate to keep hold of him (and fit) to the end of the year. We'll stay up if we can.

Chelsea after Delap on 09:38 - Nov 23 with 3159 views | MK1 | If Delap is serious about his career and not chasing a pot of gold, then he should stay with us, develop further and look for a move when maybe aged 24/25. Wishful thinking I know, especially these days, but that is what would be best for his career.

No it doesn't say that. It says he came here in the summer in a deal that included a buy back clause, for £20 million. its a badly written sentence but its saying the initial deal is 20mil. Oops someone already has pointed that out..... [Post edited 23 Nov 2024 9:46]

Other articles out this morning suggest a buy-back "in excess of £30m".

I would have thought a buy back clause only applies as a matching one? Man City cant just rock up one window and say we are applying the buy back clause and he's off. It would be very annoying if they did have an option to buy him at a fixed price if and when we do come to sell him. If that was the case, I assume we would go until the very final window.

Chelsea after Delap on 09:56 - Nov 23 with 2927 views | LegendofthePhoenix | Pound to a penny the deal is structed as per the Philogene deal that Villa had, i.e. City can match any offer we get, and then have a 20% discount, or they can take 20% of any sale we make. It's the option that makes the most commercial sense for all parties.

Chelsea after Delap on 09:56 - Nov 23 with 2921 views | Churchman | What is being written is a load of speculative bobbins to fill in space. Nobody knows the terms of the deal or the contract. Most important of all, nobody knows what the player wants. There was much lower speculation around Hutchinson, not having such a high profile, but when it came down to it, Omari rightly decided where he wanted to be. Contract or no contract, buy back or throwing in the Mascot, I suspect Delap will do the same. For now he looks a pretty happy bunny to me.

He is hardly going to benefit playing second fiddle to Haaland.

….where if he’s crap we lose £15m and are stuck with him and if he’s good we give him back and get paid a few mill after the loan period for improving him. Anyone that thinks we have a deal in place that benefits us to any major degree and not City is living in a fantasy world. We are playing with the big boys now.

Chelsea after Delap on 10:23 - Nov 23 with 2709 views | OldFart71 | If our CEO is as savvy as everyone thinks he is why would he sign a deal with City to sell back at what we bought him for ? Makes no sense. Don't see Delap at 100 million. I think that's wishful thinking on behalf of a few people. Currently I'd say between 40-50 million. Another 10 goals and that pushes that up maybe another 10 million. Just makes one wonder what Paul Mariner would be worth today with his all round play and England caps.

I can’t imagine a buy back isn’t at least double his transfer fee so I’d argue that benefits us to a very major degree, especially if he scores the goals that keeps us up. The biggest learning for us all is that if we continue to be successful few of the players that really contribute to that will stick around long, and, a la Brighton etc it’s a case of replacing sensibly but obviously not getting too attached! Regardless of where we end up this year, Davis, Delap, Hutchinson, Greaves as examples will be sought after if they stay fit.
