Anyone want some delap def info ? 10:34 - Nov 26 with 16884 viewsThe_Romford_Blue

The buyback situation is far better for us than we all thought.

It’s only that city have the first option to match any bids we receive. There’s no specific fee set for them to have him back on the cheap. It’s just that they can match whatever someone like Chelsea offer. They have a few days to react to the bid that we must disclose to them.

Found out on Sunday. Good news.

(Its funny you mention Chelase) As my manager is well in with some big wigs at Chelsea, and he is under the impression that they are very interested in Delap.

They may well be, but there's simply no chance of us accepting anything in January. Even if they offer £100m. Why would we jeopardise our survival chances? Another year in the Prem is worth way more than £100m to the club.

If he helps to keep us up and finishes on 15+ goals aged 21, I don't see why we couldn't sell him for £75m-£80m next summer.

Equally - he's still got 4 years on his contract next summer and we keep him for another 12 months to try and help us qualify for Europe

I would imagine every top club in Europe is. Up or down, there will be a bidding war come June.

Nah. 100m and he would absolutely go in January. Every player has his price. And that gives us a massive FFP profit bonus, and means say up to 3 really strong reinforcements we can bring in to keep us up across the squad. Not even considering if the player would want to go...which given the wages they can offer I think he probably would. And we don't want unhappy players.

Never thought for a moment that Ashton would have agreed to such a ridiculous deal.

Think that would make it the same as the Jaden Philogene agreement that we lost out to Villa on and would make sense but previous reports said it was different , i hope your right .

What is offered, or what is accepted?

Has to be any accepted offer surely as someone could come in with a low-ball offer of £25m and then wouldn't we be bound to accept the Man City offer owing to the buy back clause?

Hopefully this is correct, I must admit to reading the articles and finding them not ringing particularly true as to what the situation is (i.e. the big exclusive today says how he is only on £20k a week which just won't be correct)

If we can stay up could quite easily get another year out of him, but enjoy him while you can!

That's always been my understanding too; say Chelsea come along with a bid we're willing to accept, we have to then offer City for refusal to exactly match the bid (I assume including all extra terms, sell-on fees, appearance bonus extras etc).

Presumably Delap could throw a spanner in the works for City in the above example simply by saying he prefers Chelsea and doesn't want to go to City. Onus is then on City to not only match the commercial deal between Ipswich and Chelsea, but also make the personal terms attractive enough to convince him he no longer prefers Chelsea, etc.

Do you think we'll be back in for the mystery big signing that was never named (can we name now if not..)?

I imagine if someone wants him for that kind of money, we might want to try and get him loaned back for the last half of the season. Which wouldn't be the worst outcome.

Any bid that we accept, city get a few days to decide if they want to match it.

We would, but this is Ashton and McKenna we’re talking about, they’d then just buy and create five new Delaps.

Problem is how do you replace him without spending a fair chunk of that fee (let alone getting others)? We want to be adding a striker in Jan... if we lose Delap then we'd need two!

I'm with portmanking on this. We also have no need to sell.

Ashton is going to clone him 5 times. Unfortunately like in Multiplicity they get a little bit worse at football with each cloning. By number 5 you are at Leon Best levels of talent.
