Anyone want some delap def info ? 10:34 - Nov 26 with 16850 viewsThe_Romford_Blue

The buyback situation is far better for us than we all thought.

It’s only that city have the first option to match any bids we receive. There’s no specific fee set for them to have him back on the cheap. It’s just that they can match whatever someone like Chelsea offer. They have a few days to react to the bid that we must disclose to them.

Found out on Sunday. Good news.

Delap Signing Confirmed 13th Jul 2024 10:46
Town have confirmed the signing of striker Liam Delap from Manchester City. 37

£15+5mil, which looks like daylight robbery right now.

Already double that worth!

From a business view, if huge numbers of £60m - £100m were thrown around, I just don’t see how we’d not accept it (in jan) I hope we don’t, but I’d understand

Yes, but a bigger risk at the time for someone with very limited PL experience and a injury-affected season before. At least with Omari he had had a year being part of the system.

Good thing Delap has come good though because, with Hirst's injuries and the failure to sign a third striker in the Summer, we would be in trouble.

And that's the risk in trying to replace him in January, we might sign a player for £20m who would be as good but we might not - and we're still a forward down anyway. A really bad time to sell, especially for a squad still a bit short at this level.

(Its funny you mention Chelase) As my manager is well in with some big wigs at Chelsea, and he is under the impression that they are very interested in Delap.

Scope for Broja to come the other you'd think, depending on various factors (i.e. what league we're in, whether he can get fit etc).

He has just as much pedigree as Delap but needs games and a coach like KM.

Can’t think what he cost us, £15m?

I take your point, we've done very well there, but there's no guarantee we can just conjure up another one.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Ashton is going to clone him 5 times. Unfortunately like in Multiplicity they get a little bit worse at football with each cloning. By number 5 you are at Leon Best levels of talent.

Are there five young No 9s out there with Delap's potential ?

I’ve no idea, but then I’m not Ashton and McKenna. Delap didn’t have Delap’s potential until they got involved.

I am being fatuous of course. And I do want him to stay forever.

Finally we have the explanation for Cole Skuse-lookalike Jonathan Douglas' performances in a Town shirt.

Do you think we'll be back in for the mystery big signing that was never named (can we name now if not..)?

I'd been pondering this as well of late.

Any update, Rommers? Either that we might be back in for him, or that you can now hint a bit more at their identity?

If we’re being honest, did any of us think Delap had Delap’s potential five months ago?

Part of the strategy is to buy and sell at a profit

However Delap real value is he gives ITFC a good chance of surviving and thriving in this league which outways the profit from a transfer fee.

ITFC are no longer a selling club because we have to,
ITFC now sell when they want to,
the difference is huge.

If someone could see their way to making sure that this information meets the ears of the Bristol City megathread, I'd be much obliged.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

No chance the striker happens. The two big names at the time was Ward Prowse on loan but he went to Forest and an even bigger name striker that seems pointless me even saying as it’s so unbelievably unlikely. Although we definitely did contact the agent who affectively laughed at us

There’s no way he will leave in January.

Maybe in the summer but whether we stay up or go down we won’t be selling from a position of distress. If he keeps up anything like this form he’ll be worth over 50 million with multiple add ons likely. We would probably be better off selling him to a club who might then be forced to sell him again at some stage if we could. Maybe Lambert could broker a deal to Dortmund, I think he mentioned once that he used to play for them.

Never thought for a moment that Ashton would have agreed to such a ridiculous deal.
Far to experienced and street wise

I mean absolutely nothing pointed to that. We just have a lot of fatalist bed wetters from the years of dross suffered. Some of them even believed the buy back is £20m, which is what we've essentially paid! Not that we should believe this either.

Is £60m huge for a 22 year old, doing what he is doing? Isn't that what Solanke went for 5/6 years older.

Scoring a few goals for City I think, Erling something. He was the latest name the supercomputer spat out after Greaves, Hirst & Delap when using the ‘has a dad who was half decent’ criteria.

Great news Rommers, and exactly as I expected. Worth remembering that City also have a 20% sell-on fee, so the matching that City do would have to be that they match it, and then get a 20% reduction, a la Philogene.

True but it’s a bit of a moot point isn’t it. No difference in giving City 20% of what we get from someone else vs. giving them a 20% discount on him. Presumably that’s 20% of profit too, so c. £25m when we sell him for £150m.
