Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town 23:04 - Dec 4 with 7436 viewsChurchman

Just one moment. Not a list. Just THE one that you could be transported back to for a moment in time. No explanations necessary. For me:

Behind the goal when John Wark scored the third goal at Highbury v West Brom in 1978

Watching my 10 year old boy cry with happiness when we beat Bolton.

That game. Christ almighty.

I remember sitting up in the A block, looking at the scoreboard saying Ipswich 2 Bolton 3 on 90 minutes, thinking to myself 'It's happened again, unbelievable' and so annoyed that such a good side was going to miss out once more. 30 seconds later, the place absolutely erupted and after Bolton completely lost their heads, there was only one winner.

The one disappointment that night was no sodding pubs would let anyone in afterwards. I'm guessing once ET was done and we'd all had a party on the pitch, it may have been getting on for time but surely not that late?

Some point in that second half at Barnsley in the League One promotion year, looking around the away end and just seeing Ipswich faces old and young hugging and realising we’d finally done something good.

Some great days since then, Exeter that season, Hull, Coventry and Huddersfield in the final week last year but I’ll always remember Barnsley as a very special day.

Beating St Etienne away what a night , hostile atmosphere, 1-0 down …….then absolutely put them in their place 1-4 , best all round Town display I’ve ever seen .

Might just be recency bias but I’m not sure anything will ever top that Sarmiento goal for me. Loudest noise i’ve ever heard inside Portman Road

Magilton's equaliser against Bolton.
Everyone knows the rest.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Think it’s the years of dross before that will make it hard to top as a moment.

Wembley 2000.

Left home at 1am. Buses, flight, train, tube, the Town fans growing in numbers at each stop. The moment was strangely the whole ground singing you'll never walk alone and the ref waiting until we'd finished to call for the ball and blow up. Got the flight home and back to mine just before midnight. If ever there was a day that felt like a dream, that was it.

Wow! Massive salute to you witnessing that. Brilliant. I wish I’d seen it and by most in the know that is the best ITFC performance ever.

But that’s a whole game. The question is what moment in that game? Fourth goal? Second? Final whistle?

Tottenham v Ipswich (2nd April 1980) on a very rainy Wednesday night.

It was the first time I saw my heroes in the flesh.

As an 8 year old I was in total awe. Will never forget it

We won 2-0. Mariner scored the first in the 42nd minute with a diving header right in front of me. Osman with the 2nd in the 82nd minute.

"Reuser - Premiership".
Didn't hear it broadcast live, as I was there jumping for joy & being hugged by the complete stranger behind me!

Second best - making our way towards the stadium, getting to the top of Wemburley Way steps, looking back & seeing the two sets of fans behind us completely spontaneously & amicably form two ribbons of red & blue, side by side, half a mile long, without a police officer or steward in sight. An actual embodiment of the true spirit of football.

I have numerous, I wasn’t old enough to witness the days of SBR, and only managed to watch a few games in the Prem between 2000-2002.

The comeback against Sheffield United after we lost Dale Roberts will always stand out, the atmosphere was electric that night. Priskin scoring against Arsenal, Coventry away last season, Derby away the season before etc.

I worked as a steward from League One to the Prem (currently travelling, so missing this season), so having to remain on the fence last season was challenging at times, especially the late winners against Southampton and Rotherham, but the promotion party after the Huddersfield game was an incredible moment to let out all the pent up energy and celebration I had to contain after the final whistle. COYFB.

Gotta be “Osborne...1-0”

We’d battered Arsenal, hit the woodwork three times and I was beginning to think it wasn’t going to be our day. The relief, and euphoria, as Roger popped that in was immense. Second best moment ever was when the ref blew the final whistle.

Few mentions for Wembley 2000 already, so replying to the first...if I have to pick one moment, it's going to be Mogga's header; after conceding so early and Johnno going off injured thought luck was going to be against us, but he came up with a goal that set the tone for the rest of the game - he wasn't going to be beaten to that ball, and we weren't going to be beaten in that match

Highbury 78 was magical as a child, but for some reason Forest away in the cup 3-3 always sticks in the old memory bank.

Highbury 78- magical feeling of realisation, Wembley here we come.
Forest 3-3 - Frans heavily deflected equaliser, now those were scenes/limbs
Bolton Play off- sheer relief
Sarmiento- He's magic you know..

....I wish I could remember the Texaco cup wins against Norwich more, we dont celebrate that enough..

2,30 24th August 1974

Walked onto the north stand and quite simply fell in love. My first love and my truest love.

Yes there have been so amazing highs, moments of pure ecstasy, and yes there have been lows, moments when loving was harder than giving up

But it all goes back to that moment, someone put it far more eloquently than I ever could

“What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.”

Listening on the radio as Butchers header v Cologne in the semi final second leg went in. The realisation that Town were going into the UEFA cup final.
Apologies for breaking the rules but special mentions for Bent v Sheff United, Magilton and Stewart equalisers v Bolton and (left field) Marshall v Barnsley to salvage a draw having been 3 down with about 5 minutes left.

Either the Mowbray goal or Reuser goal at Wembley.

Goosebumps just thinking about both!

One of the most emotional times for me was when the whole of Portman Road welcomed SBR when he first came back as manager of Newcastle.
