If you'd told me it would be 17 games til our first one-to-90 shellacking I'd have signed up for that. It could have been a lot worse. And I think most of us know both the wider context and the very specific situation in which we entered today.

Those that booed at 3-0 and half-time? Not having you, not after the two years we've had. Much more of that and you'll end up with the club you deserve, it's pretty safe to say that, and the rest of us will be there to judge you heavily for it.

A bad day, the first goal the most annoying for me because we shouldn't be done like that after 20-odd seconds, but if that's as bad as it gets this season we'll be ok. Everyone needs to stick together and have an appreciation of the context. It's got us a long way and will take us further.

Whilst I don't condone booing. Many of those will be the reason we were able to fund the signings that go the club to the prem.

We could only spend what we could based in turnover so yes the increase in attendances played a bigger part than the wealth of the owners.

That said its a balancing act. But if those 60% stopped going. There wouldn't be funds available to do anything.

10th best save %.
10th for long range passing accuracy (I include this as it seems to be a criticism of him).
Highest % of crosses taken/stopped (in PL and Europe).

Before Saturday he was 8th in goals expected to concede vs goals conceded too but Newcastle out performed their xG by 1.7 which has pushed him down the table. I will concede that one.

I'm wrong in thinking increased attendances allowed the club to spend money. No I don't think wtf about it.

Course he doesn't. Because, by the time he's ruined one thread with a load of verbal diarrhea, he's moved on to creating the next madcap thread.

Yeah it's awful using the forum and discussing football.

I guess when I'm not being negative you all have nothing to moan at about me so find something else instead.

Grow up.

How about you 'grow up' and spend more of your life outside of this forum? But no, I'm sure we'll have to put up with your inane ramblings for much longer.

I can't be bothered to read the whole thread but I was far more bothered after the Leicester result than on Saturday. Newcastle are a top team with outstanding individuals - I had it down as a home defeat the minute Delap was not going to be available.

As we saw with other results this weekend, plenty of thrashings get thrown about at this level and anybody not expecting several of them this season is naive. Chelsea could be a very high scoring defeat.

There's nothing "factual" about that post.

We didn’t compete though did we. Huffed and puffed a bit, but miles off giving Newcastle a game. Not seen the stats, but did we have a shot on target? Normally a good indicator of if you’ve competed in a game.

Howe said that afterwards to be polite, because they were discussing SBR.

Arsenal and Chelsea could be two where we get any confidence absolutely bashed from us.

Those teams are just too fast, too aggressive, too powerful for us. If we try and take the game to them the spaces we’ll leave will be suicidal.

Now watch us draw one and win the other 😂

He is, according to this from the Premier League, with 5 errors, two ahead of anyone else in a list which isn't confined to goalkeepers.

https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/error_lead_to_goal

The issue I have with him (having seen him in the flesh ever since his first appearance against Man City) is that he doesn't inspire confidence because he seems to be an accident waiting to happen.

According to this list of the most errors leading to goals in Premier League history, it's 7 errors, and he has made the list with only a fraction of the number of games (26) of other players.

https://www.statmuse.com/fc/ask/most-errors-leading-to-goal-in-premier-league-hi

EDIT: I realise that must pick up his time at Burnley.

FURTHER EDIT: If he carries on at that rate, by the time he reaches the number of appearances of Jordan Pickford (top of the list), he will have been responsible for 81 goals.

He seems to be great on anything instinctive, reflex saves, coming for crosses and the like, but there’s mounting evidence that as soon as he has a moment to think about what he’s going to do he’s likely to make a dog’s arse of it. Which is a shame because his ability with the ball at his feet was supposedly a selling point.

I wasn't referring to the Newcastle game. I was referring to Algy saying, "Not sure how many "competitive" games there's been either. More like participating actuality." That is not factual. We've been competitive in most of our games.

10 shots 2 on target.. 2 corners to their 1 .. 42% possession… to be fair , looking at some of the stats, you wouldn’t have thought it was a 4-0 whooping. Our trouble is still Sloppy mistakes, sloppy passing, except in the premier league you get savagely punished for It .

This is why you use more valuable metrics like xG. You can have 20 shots from 30 yards out that are less likely to indicate a team capable of competing than one who creates 2 good opportunities inside the area.

It's why we've not been "competitive in most of our games". We've been competitive in a handful but generally speaking we've been kept at arms length by sides who can control the game even without the ball.

If we had been competitive, we wouldn't be 19th in terms of xGD/90, with only Southampton narrowly behind us (by 0.1 per game)

Being "competitive" is more than stats (and certainly more than XG stats).

Haha, you pick and choose stats to make whatever point you want. Elsewhere you argued Brighton created more than Newcastle to make a point about us, yet most of those chances were off target yet here you are telling us all that doesn’t mean anything. As someone else said most of us prefer to use our eyes.
