I love Delap and Hutchinson as much as everyone else, but I honestly think O’Shea has been our best signing. Consistent no matter whether it’s right back or centre back and barely, if ever has put a foot wrong. Fair play to the club for getting that over the line given the interest he had from elsewhere.

I said similar to a friend recently, if Brentford and / or Brighton are interested they've probably got something about them. They're not bad at recruitment.
Dara O’Shea… on 23:31 - Dec 30 with 3950 views | BloomBlue | Definitely gives his all now and much improved but I thought Wolf was the best defender tonight. Cleared up a couple of O'Shea mistakes and one by Greaves. Both O'Shea and Greaves I think are feeling more comfortable as they know they can move forward knowing Wolf is going to be there if they're out of position. I'll be surprised if KM changes the lineup/formation for a few games now.
Dara O’Shea… on 23:33 - Dec 30 with 3897 views | JammyDodgerrr | The signing that made the least sense and was the most frustrating at the time but what a huge one it's been. He's outrageous. We're lucky to have him.

O’Shea has physical presence in both boxes, and can header s ball. Just what we’ve needed for so long. Get Axel fit and Greaves, O’Shea in there , that’s a very decent defence .

Even tonight you can't give Woolfenden any credit whatsoever.

His positional sense is excellent. I love watching him play and KM coaching him during the game. Today, with his pace, he was following the Chelsea wide players who inverted into the middle and then tried diagonal runs behind. KM was constantly telling him to go with his man and trust his pace to cover, and it worked a treat, especially with Palmer.

You can but Wolfy much like Clarke is positionally naive at times He has the ball skills for a three though and can certainly get better

That's my point about Wolf in the team, it allows O'Shea and Greaves to some extent a license to go and track as they know the Wolf is behind them to clear up if required. It's great to see a good understanding between the three of them

Positionally, Woolfy was immense tonight. He covered several players.

I think he can be naive at times in a two - being alongside Clarke hasn’t helped either of them in the past - but a three brings out the best in him. As others have said, I think he was positionally brilliant tonight.

You're just outlining why O'shea is better than Wolf. They're both the same age, but many still see Wolf as a junior player who needs to be looked after. Im sorry, but because hes an academy graduate some feel he should be put in the side and protected. We can't afford to play the old Evans-era game of shoe-horning our kids into the side and worshipping them. Wolf did great last night, but O'shea is a leader and Kieran acknowledged that. Great signing who took unnecessary criticism because he took Wolf's place.

He took criticism because he came in and looked no better than Woolfenden for the first few games. If you're going to drop someone for doing nothing wrong then his replacement needs to be a clear improvement. And that was missing to start off with. See also Muric and Walton (unlike O'Shea I don't think we've seen any improvement from Muric the more games he's played). I thought Woolfenden would get some credit after yesterday's performance. Seemingly there's nothing he can do to convince some of how his presence benefits the side.

We should just revel in having a strong set of central defenders. Including Tuanzebe, we have 5 players who have shown they can play well at this level. And McKenna will improve them. It’s wonderful that O’Shea is performing so well, and great too to see Wolf, in his 5 matches, show he’s good enough at this level. And Burgess and Greaves look to be having a right battle for the left sided shirt. That should keep standards up. Long may they play like last night.

It brings a recurring Wolfy theory back to the fore - he is at his best in a system with 3 CBs, not 2.

If you can’t see that Wolfy is a good player who deserves his place in the side on merit, there’s no helping you. His history is irrelevant as long as he keeps stepping up and turning in performances like he is.

for me Wolfy is different to the other two centre backs last night in the way the other two seem to be a bit more reactive and you see a lot more diving in from the two for 50 50's compared to wolfy who's a bit more laid back and tends to drop off to cope instead. Now that I guess will probably lead to a fans having different opinions on him because you see other players diving in, quick blocks, getting stuck in, taking players out, then you have wolfy going along doing a solid job without looking like a star because he's not been getting stuck in. That's not to say how wolfy plays is wrong, it's just why i think he gets overlooked a fair bit.

It’s actually the opposite - if we’d signed Wolfie for £15m you’d be gushing over him. I can only imagine he took your son’s spot in the academy at centre half if you’re still slagging him off after he has proven himself good enough for the Prem
