Interesting ... wonder if we're pushing to sign Doak more?

Im not sure why if you are an attacking player, you would choose to join Everton under Dyche. There was a good bit on Everton's goals in open play since the start of last season and they had scored 20 odd goals from open play in 18 months in the premier league..

Saying that i do like Dyche as a manager, but as a manager for creative players he's a bit like Kryptonite to them. Appreciate Dyche might not be there much longer after the end of the season but as a short term move, not sure it's a great one for him.

It'd have to be one or the other, surely?

If it's a straight choice between Doak for £22-£25m and Philogene for £16-£18m, I'd definitely opt for the former. I still think KMac is a big admirer of Philogene, though.

I was hoping our move would be a permanent one, I guess this makes it a bit more likely to be the case.

Not hugely disappointed ... if we are going to use our second domestic loan/ loan to buy I'd much rather use that on someone like James McAtee who is a proven performer in the division

given we had a deal in place to buy him in the summer and he was by all accounts wanting to join..., it would seem odd if we're not in the mix, especially as he's a long term target. Would he want to go to play in a Dyche team?

I think we have a more pressing need for a right sided player than a left sided one right now though? Assuming it is one or the other of course.

Every time I've seen him come on for Villa, he's played on the right.

We can't have Phillips and McAtee unfortunately as both from Man City and only one allowed per club.

Played on the right for Hull didn't he?

That much talked about goal certainly came from the right.

I may be wrong but isn't Doak more of a Wes Burns than an Omari Hutchinson in terms of playing that right sided role though? I'd have Philogene down as more of a 10 than a proper right winger. Ogbene is the one we are looking to replace? A proper winger, powerful runner.

I guess the sell to him is that Dyche won't be there long term with the new owners in place.

Quite a gamble though.

Play for a well respected, forward thinking coach in McKenna or as of now, an unnamed manager, IF Dyche walks/is sacked?

I do wonder how much Ashton/McKenna will go back to Philogene given he turned us down once for Villa.

Might be the agent or Villa trying to flush out other interest.

As others have said, seems unlikely we wouldn't be in poll for him if we wanted him given that by all accounts he wanted to come here in the summer.

The pull of McKenna should also play in our favour you'd think, albeit Everton might have a new coach lined up that has been made known to the player.

If he goes to Everton, my take would be that we weren't prepared to pull out all the stops for him to come here.

Hopefully just one chance this time - he's had four months now to observe how Delap has turned into a monster here under our setup, and if he'd still turn us down (especially if it was for someone like Everton) against that backdrop, good luck to him.

If he is seriously considering a move away from Villa, and it's not a loan move or a permanent move to us, I really have to question his decision-making ability. Why did he sign for Villa again if he is ready to leave after 6 months? I get the signing for Villa bit with the unfinished business and Champions League angle, I even get the concept on not being sure about going to Ipswich as with the budget we have we should be doing about as well as Southampton or worse, but why would you give up after 6 months and sign for Everton? If we are no longer interested, a loan to Everton would make sense, just go out and get game time.

Not sure Emery actually wanted him. Going back to Villa was business move. They basically got him at a 30% discount.

I don’t believe him choosing Villa over us changes anything. He spent 5 years there previously so will have known he would have settled in easily while playing for a top European coach at a Champions League club. Seems like a no brainer but it just hasn’t worked out so far. However you would have to question his decision making should he decide to go to Everton with the uncertainty surrounding them.

And as a club we’ve shown we still go for players even if they have rejected us previously. George Hirst being a prime example.

But, if he had signed for us, wouldn't Villa have received the same 30% as a sell-on clause, but without having to pay his wages for 6 months?

Despite KMs history of going back for players he likes, I feel like this ship has sailed.

Could be wrong though.
