... got that bit tougher as along with Everton, West Ham (lost Bowen and Antonio), Arsenal and probably others in need of a striker, Bournemouth now lost Evanilson and Unal in the last week.

More established PL clubs possibly vying for the same strikers we might want won't help us as good as KMc is.

I hope this is someone in advanced talks behind the scenes as we really need stronger option(s) to back up Delap by the time we get to the Brighton game.

"will cry like a baby if we don't get a marquee signing through the door."

No one in this thread has said anything about a marquee signing, only you.

We've just spoken of bringing in A striker.

I will be kind and make this really simple for you.

Read back to my first comment, which said (this is the key bit) "if we don't bring in a 20 goal a season striker".

From this.... somehow it's changed to me not wanting someone better than Ali Al-Hamadi.

I don't know why I bother to indulge you by responding, but I feel it's my duty to try and help you

You’re arguing back about me wanting a marquee signing, when all I want is an upgrade on AAH… so that’s exactly what you are saying.

Above, instead of acknowledging that, you then went all name calling.

But don’t worry, I forgive you

I'll make it simple for you

No one has asked us to sign a 20 goal striker in the Jan window.

from this you somehow made up that everyone wants 20 goal striker as a marquee signing.. in a jan window.....

You respond as most of your posts on twtd are more goading posts rather than actually contributing and discussion your thoughts about an OP, like you've done with your reply in this thread to the OP.

You then get offensive

weren't always like this, but you didn't like the rainbow thread and you've become a different poster since

As we have just brought in a defender from Atalanta and it's rumoured that we are looking at a winger from abroad this means our scouting net has widened somewhat. Therefore maybe we need to consider looking abroad as many strikers over here seem to be overpriced.

I should bloody hope they are looking abroad, crazy that we've had no overseas scouting network for what must be 20 years now...
They must know what's out there, Cajuste and now Godfrey are examples of that.

All that said - getting the right guy is important as they’ll likely be needed to make a significant contribution.

You don’t think if we’d had Hirst fit then he’d have played double/triple the minutes Ali has?

Edit - just to add that actually we’ve been pretty lucky that a suspension aside that Delap has been available all season.

I think we don’t just need an improvement on Ali we need someone really decent.

I'm sure the usual suspects will be calling out Ashton and McKenna when we haven't got a 20 goal a season forward through the door in February

We better have someone in in this window or poor Al Hamadi will get more stick unfairly

Unless Hirst is fit for the rest of the season and Delap manages to stay fit and not get suspended….ok I’m reaching a bit

Of course. But the % game was always that hirst would get injured. That's not his fault but it was highly probable which made it problematic going into the season with just AAH as the alternative.
Not even just that but even if delap had got injured and not hirst then still you're left with aah.

So yes a striker was needed. Is needed. It just doesn't have to be a 20 goal striker.

Yeah but I think it’s an exaggeration to set the bar so low that all we have to do is improve on Ali.

Quality is going to be really important.

Arsenal and Bournemouth are looking in different shop windows to us. You could probably chuck the other 2 in there as well. Can see us forking out towards £20Mish, whereas the side mentioned can easily spend £30M+

Yep, child because I’d be annoyed that we’ve failed to bring in a striker in 2 windows.

I don’t mind you not caring, so why care that I do?

Speaking of spending a life disappointed, how is your wife, did she have a nice Xmas?

I could have sworn we brought in a decent striker in the last window....

And the one before that we got 2....

You are counting this window one of those 2? We're only a few days in ffs haha.

For the record I'm really eager to get that striker in and done. Never thought it would be quick or easy. Everyone is after one and we're 3rd bottom. Got to get the right man or you'll get someone going mad on the forum that they aren't doing a good enough job off the bench.

There are options there for us.

I like Lukas Nmecha at Wolfsburg, former Man City youth, a real physical profile, academy pedigree and contract due to run out in 2025 - looks a strong option on a permanent.

Latte Lath looks really expensive.

Divock Origi - is a forgotten man at AC Milan, has a bundle of top level experience, and at 29 could prove to be a real option to support Delap.

Eldor Schomurodov - another loan probably, but a player very much in the mould of Liam Delap, a physical centre forward with powerful running, also at 29, game time limited at Roma, he could be another option.

There are always options out there, and we need to get one over the line as soon as possible.

Does anyone have the hot fax number for Ashton/McKenna office. We need to get this list sent over NOW. These are options we can get right now so we can't hang about here.

I'll add at the bottom:

* Must sign quickly and not hang about.

** Favourite cheese?

No ones asking for a 20 goal a season striker, the bare minimum is an upgrade on Ali, who was bought as a project in the Championship. I’d even take someone of Big Kieffers level back on a 6 month loan.

I love us, but respectfully we are shopping in a different catalogue to Arsenal.

I think of the others you have listed, all are probably only looking at loan deals for either financial or other reasons, where as we can and should be looking at a permanent signing.

That could bring us into a completely different market.

I’d have put us in the Evan Ferguson loan picture but looks like Bournemouth are in for him so that looks unlikely. Reckon we’ll be shopping for a loan from abroad.

I think the feeling is Ferguson will go on loan to West Ham now, especially as Potter is there. Apparently, Ferguson and Potter had an excellent working relationship at Brighton.

The trouble is that given everyone wants a striker, availability, FFP and cost, we are a bit twix and between. Makes our selection box a bit limited. I guess it depends if the financial smarties in accounts can crunchie the numbers.

There are only five points between Brighton and West Ham - not sure they would be that keen to lend a striker to a team that close - every place is worth a reasonable amount of money in the PL. This will not just be up to Ferguson to decide

Was wondering that, but either way that one (Ferguson) won't happen for us now with the other clubs sniffing around.

What's happened to Eduardo at Leicester, is he injured?

I am pragmatic about what we can get, would love the marquee signing but that is so unlikely due to money / league position / competing clubs / game time and primarily I think this is a rarity in the Jan window based on the comments from many clubs.

Absolutely need a (huge) upgrade on AAH, no disrespect meant to AAH but he is work in progress and we have progressed too quickly to be the club to do that for him right now. As people have said there are options out there, from overseas as well, just remains to be seen if they are players KMc wants and then if a deal can be done.

Only KMc and medical staff really knows how soon Hirst is away from match fitness to know how soon we need someone in, but the dilemma really is about not letting too many more league games go by where AAH is our Delap replacement from the bench.

You’re correct, horribly worded by myself that part, I of course should have written the last window we didn’t bring in a striker (Delap I don’t believe was considered to be a striker)

Then a failure to do so this window, well, unthinkable really isn’t it?
