Latte Lath… 11:04 - Jan 29 with 10094 views | Kieran_Knows | Gut feeling is that we’ll go back for him. His move to America still not gone through, and Atlanta looking at other players now as well. Feels the ‘easiest’ deal for us to do at this stage.

Not sure how I'd feel if we do, he would definitely be an upgrade on Al Hamadi but I think we really could do with an experienced head rather than another risk, hoping that a top Championship player can raise his game to Premier League standard. We don’t need a third choice striker. We need someone better than Hirst, and someone who can compete with Delap.

Just been told we won’t be getting one, unless something comes up last minute. Have been trying all window apparently, but nothing has been successful.

That doesn’t surprise me, I have to say. Will have to go with what we’ve got and hope we can make something work if Szmodics or another has to play up top (better than the Newcastle game anyway).

You were quite scathing of my post about Carlton Morris, which is fair enough. But are you seriously saying you would rather muddle through with what we have than sign him. That's just crazy.

No, I don’t think we should muddle through. But if Parky is correct, and we’ve been trying all month to no avail, then what do we do? And yes Morris is crap. [Post edited 29 Jan 14:43]

If this is the case, why did they not let AAH go on loan in the summer? I am sure Hirst didn’t get injured until after the window closed, so if we are now happy with two, why not then? Arguably we would now be in a better position with AAH having had a load more minutes under the belt. Unless AAH was too unfit at that stage? Sounds like a negotiating tactic to me

I hope it is a negotiation tactic, as I’ve been quite vocal that I think it’s important we get another body in. Neither Delap or Hirst have ever played a full season without injury, so it’s quite a gamble to rely on those 2, particularly when the striker role we play is so demanding. Good point about Ali, only things I can assume is that McKenna wanted to give him a chance in the Prem and he’s ultimately proven not to be up to this season. In addition, we now have a lot more options that ‘could do’ with Broadhead, Szmodics & Enciso able to play in a striker position, albeit, not in the mould McKenna likes to use.

I think there's a real risk that we end up with someone who is about a 6/10 for what we really want who to get in we have to give a long contract. If that gamble pays off and we stay up then maybe it's worth it but if we go down and we're stuck with a middling player on a high wages it could really hurt us in the longer term. Agreed. We could very easily end up with someone that is only a bit more out of their depth than Ali. We need someone that is capable of moving the needle and that means being better than Hirst ultimately.

Kieran's comments at the presser on Thursday suggested that would be the case. McKenna: Third Number Nine the Ideal But There Are Very Few Out There 23rd Jan 2025 15:30Boss Kieran McKenna says the Blues will continue to look to add to their squad before the Monday 3rd February deadline having signed three players already but admits there are “very, very, very few” strikers available to come in as a third out-and-out number nine and Town may end up going into the second half of the season with only two. 26

Someone that can compete with Delap would likely cost north of 20m. Not sure we've got that sort of money for a player that's likely to spend significant time on the bench.

I’m all for a bit of negotiation skullduggery but I think leaking some def info through Parky is hardly likely to register at selling clubs. Need to be a bit less subtle. Feels more like a genuine sentiment. That said still a lot can happen and change.
