We lose Delap for a big fee, Davis potentially and possibly McKenna was well?

We'll still have a very competitive squad in the Championship, central midfield needs addressing and presumably the goalkeeping slot

We'll sign a decent Championship striker or two to replace Delap

Find another manager in the McKenna mould and go again?

Rohl or Cifuentes please.
Manning would also be okay.

Please not Manning. Just listen to any of his press conferences and that'll put you right off. Blah, blah, blah....waffle, waffle. Very little charisma and tactically lacking.

Rohl will be a favourite but would worry me that tactically he sometimes set up and gets thumped - see the 6-0 vs us last March and also a hammering at home to Watford. Also won't be cheap.

I've always liked Liam Rosenior but not sure he's quite right. There'll be plenty out there we've not heard of similar to Le Bris at Sunderland, or whisper it, that bloke north of the border (who I quite like in a "I am not liking that" sort of way...)

We've always assumed that KM would get poached, but I wonder what happens if at the end of the season he just decides to move on without anything in place. We'll need that compensation.

Whatever happens - up or down, KM staying or going - the next 12-18 months will be quite transitional and a real test of MA. Racing through the Championship at first time of asking hugely masks how difficult a league that is to improve year on year, and if we do go down, his biggest challenge will be ahead of him to steer us whilst we have the financial clout such that we don't waste the last 2 years.

My biggest fear is that we end up with a bloated but unbalanced squad, with PSR restricting how we can correct things, but I think buying young players has mitigated that to some degree.

Interesting times behind, and interesting times ahead...

Not sure how we'd offload Johnson's wages but I hope we can. I don't see Davis being in much demand, nor Omari or Greaves unless they really kick on in the last matches. O'Shea might interest someone going up if we're relegated and Delap is a given.

I'm not resigned to relegation (yet) but I think we're in a fairly decent position to keep a lot of the nucleus of the squad if we do.

Is that because he was nice about us?

His Hull side with Greaves, Delap, Philogene and more significantly underperformed their potential under him.

Working for Mr Illicali probably not the easiest. He did OK, but very patchy results.

I'd agree on Omari and Greaves and we are in no need to sell ultimately, I think their fees will put most off

O'Shea seems more likely but at the same time, if we keep the current defence we have, it's going to be difficult to unlock for Championship sides

The central midfield area and replacement strikers are where we need to be strengthening

For the first time since our League 1 days we would go into a season as an attractive option for the type of players people would expect we need for promotion and afford them too. When we went up to the Championship the main targets for promotion chasers wouldn't want to come to newly promoted Ipswich even if we could afford them and even more so as we've come into the Premier League.

If (when?) we do go down we will be former Premier League club Ipswich with the money to back it up.

However, we will lose McKenna I expect whatever division we're in so a lot will depend on who we get in. As others have said Rohl would be a good fit, but who knows who we're keeping tabs on who is currently unknown as McKenna was before came here?

Will we lose McKenna though? I am in no way slating / bashing him and hope he stays forever, but would another team look at the way we’ve played this season and go for him? We’ve spent £120m or whatever it is and don’t look any better for it.

I think you’ve got a point about how in demand McKenna will he should we go down. Where does he go if we go down, he’d want a good a project but will the right club for him have a vacancy and want him?

Have a bit of an issue with the £120m spent and look no better sentence though. I’m pretty sure without the signings we’d have gone worse than we have.

Agreed. There's no way to know for sure but I can do the maths and take away the goals scored by Smodics and Delap and imagine their chances falling to AAH and Chaplin, we'd not be doing great.

People seem to be sure KM goes but I don't see it personally, who is going to take him based on this season?

The promoted clubs obviously wouldn't unless their own manager gets poached and I don't see any of the bigger clubs taking that sort of risk at present. Possibly a Bournemouth or Brentford if they lose their own mangers, but I dont forsee a very big queue for him.

I hope the contracts of both manager and players have relegation clauses to ensure they are paid significantly less at the lower level. For me they need to earn the right to prem money with another promotion.

The thing with KMc is not who will take him (many would) but who will pay what he wants. If he as believed is in the top 6 earners in this league which club will take a chance on that.

I’m sure there will be a significant portion of his wages that depend on Ipswich being PL. He won’t be a top 6 earner if we’re relegated.

I’m not sure there will be tremendous PSR pressure to sell.

We’ve paid about £120m in fees but mostly on long term 4-5 year contracts. So our amortised spend on those guys is probably about £30m.

We’ve increased our wage bill significantly but it’ll still be very low in PL terms. Suspect wage bill increase is about £30m.

The estimates were our revenue would increase by about £140m for this season so in essence we should have considerable headroom for this season and that headroom will roll into next season and combined with parachute payments leave us in good shape as long as the owners continue to have deep pockets.

We’ll be unlikely to stand in the way of Delap leaving as frankly you just can’t if the big 6 come calling and McKenna will likely go too but i don’t make that as certain as Delap.

For the rest it’ll depend on the offers we receive and how much or if players want to leave and what the manager wants.

I can’t see this happening if McKenna stays but i wouldn’t be at all averse to the appointment of Director of Football to manage recruitment. I think recruitment is an area we’ve come up short. We’ve really been inactive in the oversees markets and that’s disadvantaged us….hopefully not fatally in terms of relegation but I can’t help having a very forboding feeling now.

I think we will lose Delap and Leif, can’t see there being vast amounts of interest in the rest, maybe o Shea.

That would leave us with a very very good start of a championship squad. I can’t see McKenna staying, yes his stock has fallen but a prem club will surely still be interested

The only Muff in Town.

Will Evans (Striker) from Mansfield and Josh Stokes (Midfielder) from Brizzle (on loan at Cambridge) both worth a look IMO.

Not sure for GK. Try and get Hladky back from Burnley? Or try to get Johanssen from Stoke?

Stokes is from Ipswich and I know for a fact the Town coaching staff know him.

Whether he’s actually on any list (short, medium or long), I don’t know.

Hladky 🤣. This elevation of Hladky to a top keeper in people's minds is mind boggling. He's barely played at Burnley and when he did he had an absolute nightmare.

He's got a special place with my thanks for the promotion season but he's not an upgrade on what we have.

I don't think many will leave unless we want them to.

Delap is an obvious one.

Davis - Hasn't done great. Someone might take a risk but will they pay what we want?

Hutchinson - Again see davis above.

Can't see many others going either.

Even with relegation we're 100 times stronger for actually making it to the Premier League. The important thing is that we continue build from this position - and i am in no doubt that is exactly what the owners are planning to do......and years ahead of schedule. We have visited the land of milk and honey which has unlocked millions of pounds worth of incredible infrastructure development as well as player trading scope. Not long ago Hull were beating us to the signing of Delap and Jaden and we were dreaming of better training facilities etc.

Take a moment to pinch yourselves fans.

I'd be shocked if a single player gets a Prem offer other than Delap. Hie £40m fee plus hefty add ons will help plug the revenue gap going down.

The players behind Delap is a total mess lets face it and the reason why it just isn't working this season. You'd need to get rid of half from -

Philogene
J. Clarke
Smozdics
Chaplin
Hutchinson
Broadhead
Ogbene
Burns

So, so unbalanced with 0 pace & power. What the hell were Ashton & McKenna thinking?

Will someone want to pay off Mckenna's contract? I seriously doubt it unless we make a real fight of it from now in. As for re-sale, Delap obviously, maybe O'Shea but I think others will want to leave, who would be happy being a sub in the Championship?

I think re-building this team next season in some ways will be a bigger challenge than this, bloated and in balanced squad bereft of any confidence and pressure to go up due to money spent.

I think if McKenna does go we need a more experienced manager and may have to sacrifice quality of football for results to some extent.

No momentum and little team spirit, the two factors that made the difference last year are no longer present. We are basically parallel with how Luton did they now sit second bottom. It won't be easy.

Add to that and it pains me but i suspect we’ll have a lot of fans displaying Norwich levels of arrogance and entitlement and you’re right to say it won’t be easy and Ashton in particular will have to do much better than their Luton equivalents did.

McKenna leaves at the end of this year regardless I think.

Delap, Hutchinson, Greaves, Davis, Axel possibly Ben Johnson all leave and we build around people like Wolfie, O Shea, SS, Jadon, Hirst etc. Higher level championship players but with a new manager.

Mckenna's stock has fallen so not sure if he will leave, might give it one more season with us as he's still on big money.

Player wise Delap will leave and possibly Hutch. Davis could return to Leeds but they may look at the foreign market. Next year we need at least 3 CM with Phillips, Cajuste and Luongo leaving as well as Morsy being another year older so a big rebuild in the summer there.

Also 2 new goalkeepers would be good!!

Have it on reliable authority we don’t need to sell anyone for 2 windows if we are relegated. That’s not to say we won’t let people go if the right offers come in of course, but other than Delap maybe O’Shea maybe Omari I don’t think we’d attract many big fees.

Definitely not easy, but parachute payments give you a massive advantage. You only have to look at last seasons top 4 and the top 3 this season to see that and I'd argue the sides that went down last season were in a far worse position that we're likely to be!
