Want to thank anonymous helper 08:59 - Feb 9 with 4694 viewsBaltachaFanClub

Hi all,
So, yesterday at the match I was heading up the steps around 25mins into first half and tripped on the top step. With no hand rail to guide myself I hit the floor pretty hard, got to my feet and carried on.

But I couldn’t carry on, I had aggravated an old back injury.

A very kind man helped me down the stairs and I was greeted my a steward, then a medical team who looked after me incredibly well.

I missed the Jack Clarke goals but amazingly was back in my seat for the second half.

I am in a lot of pain today, and am considering a hospital visit as I am currently still in Coventry, and 3 hours from home.

If anyone saw me fall (Entrance 9/10) and could identify the chap who helped please can you thank them for me.
I am afraid I cannot even describe the fellow as I was bewildered.

Sorry to hear this Mr Baltacha.... hope you have speedy recovery and someone can help you with a lift home to the Border Badlands

Defiately more handrails needed, none of us are getting any younger..... I now get a senior citizen discount ticket. I welcome the modest discount, but hate that I am old enough to qualify

More handrails wouldn’t have helped you, with a grocery store-esque amount of goodies you were cradling in your arms at half time yesterday…

Was good to see you briefly, sir.

It sounds like a hospital visit to get fully checked out would be a sensible thing to do. Regardless, get well soon.

A hospital visit would probably be a sensible move.

I did see Guthrum shortly after, so knew at least one of the items wasn’t yours…

Saw someone else trip and also caught my own foot once. Quite tall steps.

Hope you recover swiftly with no lasting effects.

Now on way to hospital,

Thanks for everyone’s kind words.
Never felt so fragile in my life.

Going to have to look at being off work unpaid too.

I stumbled yesterday on the way up to my seat in section 10 , fell to my right and have badly bruised wrist and Arsenal , those steps are very steep and deceiving, like you said no rail to grab .
Also point out some guy stumbled into me on the way down after the game as he also lost his balance with nothing to hold onto , makes you wonder if it’s a regular occurrence at Coventry .

Thank you, and thank you to all the kind posters.

I have a bag full of drugs and a loving wife to look after me.

It seems it’s mostly a bad bit of muscle damage, but have more doctor visits to sort during week.

What does really add a spin on this, is part of my work is risk assessment and health and safety.

How cavalier of me to fall at my own forte.

Maybe a friendly word with your counterpart/s at Cov?

They might even welcome being made aware - putting in measures like handrails could potentially save them from expensive claims against them in future.

GWS.

Just to be clear, I don’t work at Coventry City FC, I work at a bottle factory here in suffolk.

But I have emailed Coventry and explained what happened.

Also, I’ve been signed off for a month or maybe more, as today I cannot walk for more than a minute or two.

It’s going to be really rather crap

Sorry to hear. Hope you're feeling better soon. I was near the back and those steps were incredibly steep and nothing to hold on to. I witnessed loads of people stopping for a breather, but with no handrail that too was tricky.
