So at last the UK has a chance for a proper Brexit as was promised and never delivered by a bunch of successive UK P.M's ..... Trump is basically saying we'll give you some huge trade deals, we wont apply any Tariffs to you - the rest of the EU gets hit next week.... so break ties with the EU properly (because lets face it we haven't) remember who your only "true" friend has ever been - and Propser - but oh no watch the UK and Starmer screw this one up and all the EU lefties and liberals come out of the woodwork ... who incidentally should understand there will be no EU within 3 years - watch the UK snatch defeat from the jaws of victory...........
I'm surprised at your reaction to Starmer's visit from your political perspective. I would have thought you would have been pleased at Trump saying a deal is imminent with possibly no tariffs as you have mentioned. This is after his meeting with Starmer yet you then go on to criticise him?
Alternatively we could've not compromised our relationship with the worlds largest single market that's on our doorstep and with which we do nearly 50% of our total trade, in favour of a market we do about 15% of our trade with that's run by a bunch of absolute lunatics.
Also can't help but feel the balance of power doesn't sit with us in any trade deal with US. At what cost?
The OP is a ridiculous take. However the US is the world’s largest single market. It was roughly equal with the EU a decade ago but has since superseded it (by around 20pc) despite the EU adding another country. The US is our largest single country export market so it’s important to avoid any significant trade barriers.
Judging by Trump’s’deal making’ thus far he’ll just agree to anything Starmer asks for…
Just seen Trump accuse Ukraine of potentially starting World War 3 and claiming that Ukraine and disrespectful and then JD Vance pipes in and ask VZ if he has ever thanked the American people.

It is and was beyond alarming. I'm starting to think Vance might be worse than Trump, either way how can he possibly deal with those two. Europe really needs to sort this out.
Have you been watching Trump lately, he will isolate us then shaft us. I would use this to return to the EU fold as USA is out for it self and screw the rest and all moral scruples

Trump is about Trump. He's not really a political ideolog. However the people around him are right wing nutters.
The long term direction of this is the United States of Europe IF Trump is followed by more of his type. Even if he isn't, I doubt the EU is going anywhere. Maybe 1-2 like Hungary will be replaced with others.
Worth noting that most of the EU's far right have gone very quiet on the subject of leaving the EU since 2021.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

If you split individual EU countries, the US is at 15%. If you count the EU as a single trading entity, they constitute 42% of our exports which is nearly 3 times more.

I haven’t made an argument for one over the other, we need to trade with both - I was correcting the point about the EU being the largest single market which is not correct. The point being there’s $300bn in annual exports to the US at stake, with the meagre growth projections for our economy (and the Eurozone) we need a good deal with the worlds wealthiest market.
