What’s been most surprising to you this season? 12:33 - Mar 17 with 11609 viewsIllinoisblue

On or off the pitch?

1. The fact that members of the press/media are counted in attendance figures. (This will never make any sense)

2. Finding out the head analyst at goalkeeper, com - who convinced us to buy Muric - has zero experience in professional football and only job since leaving university was at Tesco. This is all on LinkedIn if it sounds too far fetched to be true.

3. Just how much better the ground looks now.

On point 1 - the fact that season ticket holders are included whether they turn up or not.

2 - That's incredible. Don't suppose he has any links with M/A's brother in law does he...

Mine

I was suprised at how painful VAR actually is when you are watching your team involved in it. Didn't feel the same frustation when it's just a neutral game, but when it's your own, by god it's painful.

Always surprises me how many people pour onto the pitch at the end of the match from the dugouts and its immediate area. Years ago, it was just a few people and the subs, now it so many more.

The huge step up in Physicality in the top division. Every team seems much bigger than us. Palace for example aren't very nice to watch, I certainly wouldn't want a season ticket, they're a team of giant athletes who are boringly effective.

The footings for the old floodlights still being in the ground also.

The gap between Premier League and Championship. You have to see it to believe it.

I think that's mine too.

Years ago, a Philogene, Hutch type player would need to play in the top division to avoid all the brick sh1thouses that were in the lower leagues.

The Prem is truly a league of bionic men now.

This. You can really say how the game is played by numbers in the top division.

Yup.

I can understand Journo's being included as they are there but including ST holders who haven't attended is the odd bit.

That's definitely a thing, must be all those protein drinks they're giving them ;)

What I've not got my head round yet is where these players come from in terms of you don't see them in lower leagues working their way up. They just appear in the Prem, and our experience with our players is theres more to playing at Prem level than just having the fitness, physicality, so how they do they learn those skills ?

Amazing what a lick a paint an do, to be fair to Clegg he did try and rally us all to go and throw a few brushes around but no one bothered.

Sad indictment on our fanbase.

For me it is the wafer thin margins between winning or losing are and how you have to have a 9/10 game, all game to compete.

The teams we've face just need one tiny way through our setup, and they score, of course when we give them big gaps they score more

But it's just that you think you're matching up, and blink of an eye and you're a goal down.

Yeah, this. I was confident we could compete with the bottom half teams but the difference between that and picking up results is massive

that's such a good point; I think it was the Fulham game at home that totally shocked me - they were all like running backs, enormous, fast *and* skillful - where do they come from, is this what Category A academies are now aimed at producing?

As others have said, the speed, strength and general skill level of so many players in the prem. The fact that two teams (plus Saints) that blew the rest of the Championship out of the water a year ago are just nowhere this season says it all.

ST holders who can't attend ensure others will use their seat(s) - the missus and I certainly do and I'm sure most other ST holders do the same - it's not difficult, given the constant demand for home tickets (even if you use the club's refund option). I certainly haven't noticed any empty seats in the ground for a couple of seasons, now.
