Southampton and Leicester 19:04 - Apr 8 with 9016 viewsMarshalls_Mullet

Lots of talk this week about how bad these two teams are.

- Southampton being the earliest team to be relegated.

- Leicester having 8 home defeats without scoring a single goal.

Sobering to think that we haven't managed to beat either of these teams this season.

We really need to beat Leicester away to regain some pride.

At the same time, it's nice at least that we haven't managed to set any particularly memorable but unwanted records

We could still go down with the lowest total for a team 3rd from bottom and as part of statistically, the worst ever bottom three! Hopefully, we can grab another few points yet, to stop that being the case.

The record for the fewest home wins is 1 and the lowest home points tally is 7. As we are currently equal with both of them a win at PR would be nice.

That's odd. I could have sworn we have twice as many points as Southampton and 3 more than Leicester. If only we hadn't thrown away so many points from winning positions.

We absolutely are.

Forget points totals and everyone with a working pair of eyes can see we are better than those 2 teams.

Goal difference probably a good indicator.

The bottom line is that 17 teams are better than us and we haven't been able to bridge the gap.
We are demonstrably better than 2 teams, one who've sacked their manager and the other who will no doubt do the same.
I'd say we're much more likely to bounce back up than the other 2.

They’ve both already sacked a manager this season.
Both will twist again before next season, so they’ll have had five managers between going up and starting next season.
If KM decides to stay at least we have a bit of stability going for us.

17 out of 92

I’ll take it!

The only marker I want us to pass this season is getting over 22 points; the amount the Budgies were relegated on.

Apart from the fact we have more points, scored more goals and conceded less than both of the sides below us?

What would your definition of better be?

And we are better despite operating with a budget and squad nowhere near the level of either of those 2 clubs who have benefitted from years in the PL.

Much more confident we will rebuild a lot better than those 2.

Leicester going for Dyche will make them a force again though next season, even if they are then cannon fodder in a subsequent PL season.

Of course Leicester should be starting with a significant points penalty due to their financial situation

Leicester finished ahead of us last season and have years of Premier League cash behind them. If we finish ahead of them it will be progress on last season, and a small positive to end the season with.

Agreed - if we finish above anyone this season it is a major achievement in the circs. Fingers crossed it can be both of them but I'll take just Southampton.

We've also been lucky they've taken a lot of the bad press off us.

Southampton manager won once and drew once in his tenure which speaks volumes. Leicester have an appalling home record so we all know how it's going down when we go there.

They have been poor but let's not kid ourselves we are THAT much better. Although McKenna has been a bit disappointing this season I'd say he's still the main reason why we are not in the bottom two albeit that can still change.

Let's hope so. But, on the other hand, let's not get too fussed over some arcane stat supplied for the glee of MotD presenters that might say, for instance, that Ipswich have acquired fewer points in combined months beginning with an F or an M since the last time it happened.

And Hull getting rid of Rosenior after just missing out on the play-offs hasn't worked well, as they're on their second new manager this season & still only 2 points above the relegation zone.

So we are no better than 21 Championship sides and 3 current League 1 ones by that reckoning as we will all end up either in the Championship or higher next season.

Hmm didn’t we (net) spend more than both of them combined the last two windows?

I get the ‘plucky’ narrative if we hadn’t, totally agree, but as a measure we actually did spend £125 million net, the second most in the league, and one of the bigger spends in the whole of Europe.., and yes that’s from a low base, but indexed to that, we’ve not really improved on the pitch either.., so we’ve definitely had a worse 12 months than either (off the pitch).

Both will be in a better position than us to spend, as a consequence, I’d think. We look in a poor position. In terms of governance.

We might need to do a Leicester and fudge accounting periods : ))
