Definitely not Downes. Not many players come back to a club and perform to the same standard and although he's not been in favour for Saints what I did see of him he wasn't that impressive. We need to build a squad capable of winning the Championship and one that doesn't yo yo. I think we will end up with a high class Chelsea youngster on loan, no idea which one but could see one of our midfield options coming from there. |

He’s a Rolls Royce of a player.., he’ll have so many options, for really good teams in top leagues, here and abroad.
We really can’t afford him either. I’m guessing Delap deal is done, and it is £30 million, or he’d be playing to increase his value etc

If we can mitigate losses for this year .., we spent £150 million! Then that night help us sign one or two.
I’m not sure we had a contingency for relegation, in spite of the rhetoric.., I’m not sure you give the manager a champion league contract and spend that amount (Luton spent £25 million in our position), and think relegation looks a high probability.
Look at our double pivot midfield, KM loves that formation, it’s SO important to him whatever the league.
Next season it’s Massimo who is out of contract, 35 and leaving, Phillips and Cajuste on loan and leaving, and Sam .., who will be 34.
We literally have a 34 year old, a club legend, but clearly a bit less mobile than last time at this level. ONE player in the entire club, aged 34, for two key roles.
Flynn I’m guessing will be a top target, he’s got huge energy, he’d be superb, but can’t imagine being promotion competitors, that will be an easy deal to do.
Fingers crossed though.., we are SO short in that area, having spent a lot, and signed a huge number of inside forwards, it’s all very odd planning.
Ashton and KM really did 100% buy into the narrative they’re elite and top level ready.., they clearly aren’t ., one midfielder that can sit in any professional club isn’t great contingency planning.

Nobody knows what we’ve spent this year, and I’m not sure how useful it would be to guess. For transfers you’d need to split the reported purchase value and split it across the length of each contract. Wages would be a bit more of a guess, but there are reported figures that would give a rough approximation. Income would be a combination of reported TV and league placement money plus an another guess at other sources based on the previous year and finger in the air uptick for this year. It might be possible to get within £30M or so without a serious amount of effort and digging. |  |

Deffo need two CM, although I still think Taylor is good enough for next season. Poor lad has never really been given a run of games. Yes we need another couple of strikers to cover Hirst. Mind you I assume that Ali will be back in the summer and he is fine at championship level. I think we will keep Hutchinson and perhaps he will find the #10 role a bit easier next season at that level. I have always preferred him on the wing dribbling at low block defences. Broady, billie jean and SS will have stellar seasons. The important player we need to keep is O'Shea. He has been excellent. He will push Delap close for player of the season. Greaves looked good again against Arsenal and Woolfy will be fine in the champ.

I just don't personally see why Tuanzebe would go for that. His fitness has also been unreliable again this season so I do think Ashton might be nervous to give him a really punchy contract. I would be ecstatic to be wrong though - fantastic player when fit.
Burns and Ogbene would be brilliant in the Championship next year but Ogbene won't be fit and up to speed to start the season and who knows when we will see Burns - tail end of 2025? Maybe the new year before he's really ready to contribute? We can't wait for those guys if we are serious about automatic promotion and as we've seen it's a key position to how we set up. I'd sign someone who can start the season and ease Ogbene in. That completely takes the pressure off rushing Burns back. A decision can be made on who stays next summer. | | | |

The £130m was not spent in a single lump. Transfer fees are spread out (amortised) over the length of the contract. This is entirely acceptable for PSR.
£130m over 4 years is just over £30m per year, which would be covered by parachute payments, even without selling anybody. |  |

I don't think so, personally. The Blunts wanted £20m in Jan for him and they'll still want £15m+ this summer for sure. He's more likely to go to a newly promoted side IMO.
